Elsewhere, two Western Conference powerhouses, the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets, battle to begin their seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out my NHL predictions for Oct. 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NHL predictions: Best bet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Best bet: Marchenko to score 1+ points (-137)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marchenko is a stud, and he has improved significantly each year of his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Year 1:<\/strong> 59 games, 25 points<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Year 2:<\/strong> 78 games, 42 points<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Year 3:<\/strong> 79 games, 74 points<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>At 25 years old, there is no reason to expect anything but a similar season or even an uptick in production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He plays close to 20 minutes a night and plays top power-play minutes. He scored 19 PP points last season, which ranked second on the team behind Zach Werenski. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marchenko slots in beside Werenski on the blueline with the man advantage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He gets a lot of offensive zone touches and has a nice matchup to start the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Preds were dreadful last year. They finished second last in the Atlantic Division with a -60 goal differential. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nashville allowed the sixth-most goals per game in 2024-25 (3.3).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn&#8217;t usually a price I&#8217;d play on a points prop, but there&#8217;s a lot of value getting behind a point-per-game scorer against a shaky defensive unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key stat:<\/strong> Marchenko scored five points in two games against the Predators last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"cacheembed:118981\">Embed: #118981<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/sports-hub\/ice_hockey\/nhl?utm_source=insights&amp;utm_medium=text_link&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_campaign=sportsbook_nhl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Full NHL betting markets<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/news\/article\/nhl-injury-report?utm_source=insights&amp;utm_medium=text_link&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_campaign=injury_reports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>NHL injury report<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/news\/stats\/nhl\/top-skaters?utm_source=insights&amp;utm_medium=text_link&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_campaign=stats_pages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>NHL stats &amp; standings<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NHL player prop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stars\/Jets under 5.5 goals (-105):<\/strong> Neither team has played yet this season, but there&#8217;s plenty of reason to buy into the defensive upside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Winnipeg allowed the fewest goals against last year, and was the only team to concede fewer than 200 overall (190).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dallas wasn&#8217;t far behind, allowing the sixth fewest goals against per game.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It starts with goaltending, and both teams have a Vezina-calibre goalie between the pipes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Connor Hellebuyck is coming off one of the best seasons ever for the position. He had a 2.01 GAA and won his second straight Vezina while adding a Hart Trophy to his collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opposite him is Jake Oettinger. He is always in the conversation and has recorded a better than a .900 SV% in all five of his NHL seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, Dallas will be fully healthy ahead of his contest, which was a rare occurrence last season.
