Gausman has been dynamite and I expect him to continue his second-half surge, while I&#8217;m fading deGrom against a division rival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-d0873b89-4dfa-47d6-9954-56140c451c77\">Check out my top MLB prop bets for Sept. 17, featuring a prediction on Mookie Betts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-22b3784f-32c2-400a-beef-1578a991be49\">MLB prop bets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/sports\/baseball\/competitions\/10065\"><strong>Full MLB betting markets<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/article\/mlb-injury-report\"><strong>MLB injury report<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/stats\/mlb\/top-players\/hitting\/OPS-on-base_plus_slugging\"><strong>MLB player stats<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/stats\/mlb\/standings\/division\"><strong>MLB standings<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-0c59b741-4781-48d8-8ffa-d93f8ee90c10\"><strong>Best bet:<strong> Gausman over 5.5 Ks (-138)<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Toronto Blue Jays right-hander is coming off his best start of the season \u2014 a two-hit shutout against the Houston Astros.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It marked the ninth time in 10 second-half starts that Gausman has logged at least six innings.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He\u2019s made good on this bet in six of those outings, and upped his K rate by more than 3% post-all-star-break.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gausman has a sparkling 2.25 ERA over that stretch, holding opponents to a .161 batting average.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Toronto\u2019s bullpen has been worked hard and is shaky, so I\u2019m optimistic Gausman will continue to give the Blue Jays length tonight.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/article\/blue-jays-best-bets-vs-rays-september-17\">Read why Jordan Horrobin likes Gausman over 18.5 outs<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Going deep would obviously help his chances of clearing this line, but the matchup is strong regardless.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tampa Bay Rays have struck out more often than all but two teams in the second half. And they have the 10th-highest K rate vs. right-handers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-13bf476e-3f27-4d52-86f2-70dff07fd638\"><strong>Key stat<\/strong>: Gausman fanned six Rays when he faced them earlier this season and has cleared this line in each of his last six non-injury-impacted starts vs. Tampa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-ebade6eb-0e6a-4675-8cbc-3a4396c11ac4\">Best MLB picks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Betts over 1.5 total bases (+100)<\/strong>: Betts&#8217; teammate Shohei Ohtani is having a monster end to the season. Don&#8217;t let that take away from what Betts is doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Betts is batting .373\/.400\/.729 in September. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ohtani is one of only six players with a higher OPS than Betts this month. But Betts is topping him in slugging and total bases, and has as many homers (five). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Los Angeles Dodgers have another tough matchup against Philadelphia Phillies southpaw Jesus Luzardo, but he&#8217;s been especially difficult on left-handed batters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Betts is averaging 3.1 total bases per game this month, topping this number in 10 of 14 games. Over his last 30, he&#8217;s recorded two-plus bases 18 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>deGrom under 17.5 outs (-118)<\/strong>: The Texas Rangers righty has failed to clear 17.5 outs in five of his last seven starts. One of those games came against the same Astros he\u2019ll see tonight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s 50\/50 against this line on the season and is coming off his longest start of the season.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Texas is still in the wild-card hunt, and I don\u2019t see the club running the oft-injured starter into the ground down the stretch.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rangers have gotten good production from their bullpen all year (fifth in ERA this season, third in September), and the club is off tomorrow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if heavier usage is required out of the group today, it will have a day to rest on Thursday before closing out the season with a favourable nine-game stretch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-571cf986-8d14-4776-b519-20fa27d04fec\"><em>MLB prop picks made at 12:55 p.m. ET on 09\/17\/2025<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two big-name starting pitchers highlight my top MLB prop picks for Wednesday&#8217;s baseball slate.
