{"id":368183,"date":"2025-09-09T14:55:06","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T18:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.northstargaming.ca\/admin\/nsgcms\/?p=368183"},"modified":"2025-09-09T14:55:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T18:55:06","slug":"mlb-prop-bets-and-predictions-september-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.northstargaming.ca\/admin\/nsgcms\/mlb-prop-bets-and-predictions-september-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Best MLB prop bets Sept. 9: Back Mookie Betts and Daulton Varsho, fade German Marquez and Spencer Strider"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For the second consecutive day, Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts headlines Tuesday&#8217;s top MLB prop picks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-d0873b89-4dfa-47d6-9954-56140c451c77\"><strong>Today&#8217;s MLB props narrative<\/strong>: Betts is hot and has a juicy matchup against Colorado Rockies righty German Marquez, who also finds himself in today&#8217;s recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-d0873b89-4dfa-47d6-9954-56140c451c77\">Check out my favourite MLB prop bets for Sept. 9, featuring predictions on Daulton Varsho and Spencer Strider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-22b3784f-32c2-400a-beef-1578a991be49\">MLB prop bets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/sports\/baseball\/competitions\/10065\"><strong>Full MLB betting markets<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/article\/mlb-injury-report\"><strong>MLB injury report<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/stats\/mlb\/top-players\/hitting\/OPS-on-base_plus_slugging\"><strong>MLB player stats<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/stats\/mlb\/standings\/division\"><strong>MLB standings<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-0c59b741-4781-48d8-8ffa-d93f8ee90c10\"><strong>Best bet: Betts over 1.5 total bases (-106)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los Angeles was quiet last night (three runs, four hits) against righty Chase Dollander and the Rockies\u2019 bullpen, but that\u2019s no reason to shy away from Tuesday&#8217;s matchup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Marquez has a 6.19 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in 22 starts.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He\u2019s predictably been awful at home (6.45 ERA, .321 opponents\u2019 batting average), but has been nearly as bad on the road (5.95, .315).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Marquez has been crushed by both lefty (.532 slugging) and righty hitters (.521).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Colorado\u2019s bullpen has by far the worst ERA (6.02) in the majors, and it&#8217;s been even worse in the second half.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for Betts, he\u2019s enjoying his best stretch of the season.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The eight-time all-star is batting .328 and slugging .504 over his last 30 games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He&#8217;s seen Marquez a good amount, batting .308 in 29 career plate appearances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-13bf476e-3f27-4d52-86f2-70dff07fd638\"><strong>Key stat<\/strong>: Betts has topped this line 18 times over his 30-game heater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-ebade6eb-0e6a-4675-8cbc-3a4396c11ac4\">Best MLB picks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Varsho 1+ RBI (+170)<\/strong>: The Toronto Blue Jays see Houston Astros righty Luis Garcia, who threw well in his season debut and is making his second start of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m going to keep the focus here on Varsho, who&#8217;s hitting the ball with authority and punishing right-handers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Varsho has an incredible 18 homers in 150 at-bats vs. righties, slugging a robust .693.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Batting primarily out of the No. 5 spot for MLB\u2019s No. 2 team in second-half wRC+, Varsho has 47 RBI in 54 games.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Varsho has started September on a tear, hitting three homers with a 1.210 OPS.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best MLB pitching props<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Marquez under 3.5 strikeouts (-120)<\/strong>: There\u2019s big blowup potential against the Dodgers, who returned Max Muncy last night and are supposed to have Will Smith back in the lineup today.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Add that pair to Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez, and this lineup is a nightmare for even the best of pitchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marquez is averaging under five innings per start and has one of the lowest strikeout rates among starters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only six of 116 pitchers who have thrown 100-plus innings have a lower K% than Marquez.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rockies veteran has gone under this light line in 14 of 22 starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Strider under 17.5 outs (-125)<\/strong>: The Atlanta Braves&#8217; power arm hasn&#8217;t been right in his comeback season from Tommy John.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strider has shown flashes but has been far too inconsistent, and his fastball velocity has diminished considerably. So has his K rate (24.2% compared to 36%+ in 2022\/23).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His first start out of the all-star break was a gem, continuing a strong finish to the first half. But it&#8217;s been downhill since then. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strider has a 7.75 ERA (7.09 FIP) over his last seven starts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He has allowed 10 homers over those outings, striking out just 24 in 33.2 innings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While the lack of Ks can theoretically allow him to work deeper by keeping his pitch count down, it simply hasn&#8217;t mattered.
