Toronto tops the American League, while the defending champs are first in the NL West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out my Blue Jays vs. Dodgers same-game parlay predictions for Friday, Aug. 8, featuring Scherzer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/news\/stats\/mlb\/bo_bichette\/batting-stats\">Bo Bichette<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blue Jays vs. Dodgers predictions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parlay: Over 8.5 runs | Blue Jays to win | Scherzer over 4.5 Ks | Bichette over 0.5 hits (+480)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong><strong><strong>Over 8.5 runs (-136)<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>:<\/strong> The chances of the future Hall of Famers coming out of this game unscathed are unlikely.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I have more faith in Scherzer, who has been significantly better than Kershaw. That\u2019s why I\u2019m backing Toronto to win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These teams are near the top of most offensive stats, including wRC+ (tied for second).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All but two of Scherzer\u2019s eight starts have gone over this number and the over is 9-4 in Kershaw\u2019s 13 outings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Those O\/U stats are imperfect, but they reinforce how difficult these offences are to contain regardless of how well the starters perform. These clubs are averaging more than 10 combined runs per game.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Kershaw\u2019s 3.29 ERA doesn\u2019t accurately tell his performance. He\u2019s limited runs, but he\u2019s below average in several meaningful categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s due for a clunker and has to contend with a dangerous club that&#8217;s coming off a 45-run series at Coors Field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A throwback duel between two of the best pitchers of their era would be awesome, but I wouldn&#8217;t bet on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/sports-hub\/baseball\/mlb?utm_source=insights&amp;utm_medium=text_link&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_campaign=sportsbook_mlb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Full MLB betting markets<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/news\/article\/mlb-injury-report?utm_source=insights&amp;utm_medium=text_link&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_campaign=injury_reports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>MLB injury report<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/news\/stats\/mlb\/top-players\/hitting\/OPS-on-base_plus_slugging?utm_source=insights&amp;utm_medium=text_link&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_campaign=stats_pages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>MLB stats &amp; standings<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MLB SGP legs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong><strong><strong>Toronto ML<\/strong><\/strong> (+123)<\/strong>:<\/strong> This might be Toronto&#8217;s most winnable game of the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los Angeles is sending out Blake Snell tomorrow before ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto closes out the series on Sunday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AL-best Jays are 13-7 in the second half, and no team has been better against clubs with records above .500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kershaw\u2019s lack of Ks and Toronto\u2019s league-low strikeout rate lead me to believe the Blue Jays will strike early and often and work from a position of strength.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any pitcher is susceptible to the Dodgers\u2019 potent Shohei Ohtani-led lineup, but Scherzer has largely been sharp and Toronto\u2019s bullpen was revamped ahead of the deadline.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s unlikely you\u2019ll be able to get Toronto at this price many more times after this series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"cacheembed:117117\">Embed: #117117<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong><strong>Scherzer over 4.5 Ks<\/strong><\/strong> (-220):<\/strong> Scherzer is 4-2 against this number over his last six starts with an 11-strikeout game mixed in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He got up to 96 pitches that game and then came back with another gem his last time out: 6 IP, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 Ks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scherzer&#8217;s fastball is up to 95 mph and his advanced metrics are superb. It&#8217;s all encouraging ahead of tonight&#8217;s game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los Angeles has the seventh-highest K rate in the second half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bichette to record a hit (-345)<\/strong>: This provides a modest bump from +410 to +480. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bichette is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/news\/article\/blue-jays-vs-dodgers-best-bets-august-8-2025\">worth a play at over 1.5 total bases<\/a>, according to Jordan Horrobin. And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/news\/article\/mlb-prop-bets-and-predictions-august-8-2025\">I like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over 1.5 bases<\/a> as a single, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I&#8217;m going with a safer leg. Not much explanation is needed here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bichette leads the majors in hits (145).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Toronto&#8217;s shortstop has recorded a hit in more than 75% of his games, per Team Rankings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Among qualified hitters in the second half, he has the eighth-best wRC+, seventh-lowest K rate and ranks sixth with a .382 average.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Blue Jays vs. Dodgers predictions made at 2:40 p.m. ET on 08\/08\/2025<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What a way to kick off tonight&#8217;s powerhouse Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers series: Max Scherzer vs. Clayton Kershaw.
