{"id":344399,"date":"2025-05-05T13:32:26","date_gmt":"2025-05-05T17:32:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.northstargaming.ca\/admin\/nsgcms\/?p=344399"},"modified":"2025-05-05T13:32:26","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T17:32:26","slug":"mlb-prop-bets-and-predictions-may-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.northstargaming.ca\/admin\/nsgcms\/mlb-prop-bets-and-predictions-may-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Best MLB prop bets May 5: Fade Seattle&#8217;s Bryce Miller, back sluggers James Wood and Oneil Cruz"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I&#8217;m kicking off the new MLB week with two prop picks for the 10-game slate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-84329f2b-7888-4034-9979-03e8608897e5\"><strong>Today&#8217;s MLB props narrative<\/strong>: Pittsburgh Pirates stud Oneil Cruz rakes with a platoon advantage and has one tonight against Miles Mikolas and the St. Louis Cardinals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-8f1effd0-db18-40a8-916e-091372420d9e\">Check out the best MLB prop bets for May 5, which includes a best bet on Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryce Miller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-0a4ee124-09d4-4260-81c9-fd6fe232dbb3\">MLB prop bets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/sports\/baseball\/competitions\/10065\"><strong>Full MLB betting markets<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/article\/mlb-injury-report\"><strong>MLB injury report<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/stats\/mlb\/top-players\/hitting\/OPS-on-base_plus_slugging\"><strong>MLB player stats<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/news\/stats\/mlb\/standings\/division\"><strong>MLB standings<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Best bet: Miller under 15.5 outs (-108)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miller had minuscule&nbsp;walk rates in his first two seasons, but he&#8217;s been unable to find the zone this year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only two pitchers who have thrown at least 30 innings have a higher walk rate than Miller (14.7%), whose BB% was 5.7 from 2023-24.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The righty has walked multiple batters every&nbsp;start this season and nine over his last two outings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He&#8217;s been able to limit damage via strikeouts and by keeping the ball in the yard, but Miller&#8217;s tightrope act is sure to lead to more blowups until he corrects his control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tonight&#8217;s matchup isn&#8217;t a great one for him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Athletics have been a top 10 offence by wRC+. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Their home stadium has been the second-most hitter-friendly venue, per Baseball Savant&#8217;s park factors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Seattle&#8217;s division rival has been walking at a respectable clip and striking out well-below average, sporting the fifth-lowest K rate in MLB.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mariners are off this Thursday and were off last Thursday. Since then, they got six-plus innings in back-to-back starts and only needed two relievers yesterday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their&nbsp;bullpen should start this series in good shape.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key stat:<\/strong> Miller has gone under this line in four consecutive starts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best MLB picks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cruz over 1.5 total bases\u00a0(-110)<\/strong>: The price is a bit steep, but this is a perfect matchup to target Cruz in.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He faces St. Louis Cardinals starter Mikolas, an arm prone to contact who doesn&#8217;t miss bats.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mikolas has 17 Ks over six starts.
