Sam Burns \u2014 who clocks in at +1,400 \u2014 is my best bet, but I&#8217;m also taking fliers on two guys well down the odds board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"block-6c37cb08-cf64-44cf-857a-d9409b9361a5\">Check out our The American Express picks for the PGA Tour tournament beginning on Jan. 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-c42e5bcd-3d78-44a9-a94a-015d114981be\">The American Express picks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Click linked odds to add selection to betslip.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Go to full <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.com\/sportsbook\/sports\/golf\/competitions\">The American Express betting markets<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarbets.ca\/sportsbook\/event\/1021457351\">.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Best bet: Burns to win (+1,400)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This tournament seems like it was made for Burns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Players compete at three courses \u2014 La Quinta Country Club, Nicklaus Tournament Course and Pete Dye Stadium Course \u2014<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>before a cut is made after 54 holes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The final round is played at the Stadium Course, and bettors can be sure of a couple of things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The winner will have to make birdies: <\/strong>Each of the last 17 winners has had a score of -20 or better. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strong putting correlates to success:<\/strong> With so many birdie looks available, elite putters tend to rise to the top of the leaderboard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Burns is one of the best putters on the planet. He also does most of his damage on Bermuda grass greens (which are featured here).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had the fifth-best birdie rate last season (4.42) and ranked 14th in strokes gained: putting (+0.496).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The five-time PGA Tour winner also enters this event in strong form, with six straight top-15 finishes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Key stat: <\/strong>Burns has a pair of T6s and a T11 in his last four starts at this event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-c1e817ca-a7f4-4be8-8332-7ac0c6f20f4b\">Quick picks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hall to win (+4,000): <\/strong>Harry Hall is on a heater \u2014 say that 10 times fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 27-year-old Englishman has five straight top-15 finishes and is coming off back-to-back top-10s to start the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He&#8217;s one of the better putters in this field, which will be important to capitalize on birdie opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking of birdies, Hall made the second-most per round last year (4.52) behind only Scottie Scheffler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Suber to win (+12,500):<\/strong> Ever heard of Jackson Suber? Probably not. But I think there&#8217;s a good chance he&#8217;ll end up on people&#8217;s radar by the end of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The PGA Tour rookie made a strong impression in his debut at the Sony Open last week, finishing T6 while gaining over a stroke putting and on approach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before that, Suber finished T9 at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 25-year-old made 10 of his final 11 cuts on the KFT last year, finishing inside the top 25 six times (T3 or better twice). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I will sprinkle him to win based on the unpredictability of this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Golf picks made at 3:00 p.m. on 01\/15\/2025.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The PGA Tour&#8217;s West Coast Swing begins at The American Express in La Quinta, California.
