The penultimate weekend of the NFL’s regular season is here.
The latest: Most playoff spots are locked in but seeding is far from concrete. There are some huge games on tap, including a matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos, who are vying for the AFC’s final wild-card spot. On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings host the Green Bay Packers.

Saturday slate
Chargers vs. Patriots (Saturday, Dec. 28: 1 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Los Angeles -4.5
Closs says: The Chargers are the better team and have more to play for. With a win, Los Angeles would clinch a playoff birth while the Patriots should be looking ahead to the NFL Draft. L.A. has run the ball effectively for most of the season and New England allows the ninth-most rushing yards per game (130.4).
Pick: Chargers -4.5
Broncos vs. Bengals (Saturday, Dec. 28: 4:30 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Cincinnati -3
Perri says: Bo Nix isn’t your typical rookie. Case and point, he actually played Joe Burrow back in 2019 as a member of the Auburn Tigers. The 24-year-old has been efficient and protective at QB and Denver’s defence ranks atop the league. That combo has produced an NFL-best 11-4 ATS record. Cincy’s defence has let the team down all season and I expect it to fold one last time.
Pick: Broncos +3
Cardinals vs. Rams (Saturday, Dec. 28: 8:00 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Los Angeles -6.5
Psihogios says: The wheels are completely off the Cardinals bandwagon. Arizona has lost four of its last five games with its lone win coming over the lowly Patriots. James Conner’s injury and potential absence puts extra pressure on a Kyler Murray-led passing attack that isn’t clicking. Los Angeles is healthy, has won four consecutive contests and can essentially lock up the NFC West with a win. I expect the Rams to look strong in primetime.
Pick: Rams -6.5
NFL Week 17 ATS picks: The early Sunday slate
Titans vs. Jaguars (Sunday, Dec. 29: 1 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Jacksonville -1
Closs says: There isn’t much separating these sides. Both teams sit at 3-12 with nothing else to play for but pride and a potential draft position upgrade for the loser. I will back the home team, however. The Jaguars’ last win came against the Titans in Tennessee which gives me a hint of confidence in picking sides with Jacksonville.
Pick: Jaguars -1
Panthers vs. Buccaneers (Sunday, Dec. 29: 1 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Tampa Bay -8
Closs says: The Buccaneers come off a Week 16 loss to the Cowboys but were rolling before then. Tampa Bay won the previous four games and covered this spread in three of them. It’s only lost twice this season to teams under .500 (Cowboys, 49ers) and I’d put Carolina in a tier below. The Panthers are 1-5 on the road with a -102 point differential.
Pick: Buccaneers -8
Colts vs. Giants (Sunday, Dec. 29: 1 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Indianapolis -7.5
Perri says: There are only two weeks left to fade the Giants and I want to get my licks in. New York is 2-13 and an abysmal 4-11 ATS. The Colts just put up 38 points and I expect Jonathan Taylor to have another monster game against a defence allowing 4.8 yards per rush (third-highest in the NFL).
Pick: Colts -7.5
Raiders vs. Saints (Sunday, Dec. 29: 1 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Las Vegas -1
Perri says: Spencer Rattler is 0-4 as a starter and is coming off a game where he threw for 154 yards in a 34-0 loss. The Raiders just snapped a 10-game losing streak but Aidan O’Connell has at least won games before and has the best offensive player on the field – Brock Bowers — at his disposal.
Pick: Raiders -1
Jets vs. Bills (Sunday, Dec. 29: 1 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Buffalo -8.5
Psihogios says: New York opened the week with some key players on the injury report. Both Davante Adams and Sauce Gardner didn’t practice and there’s really no need for the Jets to push either. The Bills can lock themselves into second in the AFC with a win, and I expect them to flex their muscles early and often against a downtrodden New York team.
Pick: Bills -8.5
Cowboys vs. Eagles (Sunday, Dec. 29: 1 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Philadelphia -6.5
Perri says: Jalen Hurts (concussion) didn’t practice all week but I’ll still back the Eagles to cover at home. And no, I’m not putting my faith in Kenny Pickett. This has everything to do with Philadelphia’s No. 5 scoring defence, which dominated Cooper Rush in November. The backup QB threw for just 45 yards in a 34-6 blowout loss that game.
Pick: Eagles -6.5
NFL 4 p.m. slate
Dolphins vs. Browns (Sunday, Dec. 29: 4:05 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Miami -6.5
Closs says: Cleveland’s offence looked decent under Jameis Winston but the coaching staff is turning to Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the remainder of the season and he has not looked good. The QB has thrown zero TDs and five picks while completing 51.5% of his passes this season. He was limited at practice this week but if he plays, I love Miami at this number.
Pick: Dolphins -6.5

Packers vs. Vikings (Sunday, Dec. 29: 4:25 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Minnesota Pick’Em
Psihogios says: In the first meeting, Jordan Love struggled to deal with Minnesota’s blitzing defence and threw two first-half interceptions. Green Bay also missed two field goals in the first half, which proved costly. But Love fired off a trio of TD passes in the fourth quarter as the Packers narrowly lost, 31-29. Love did a much better job dealing with the blitz as the contest went on, and I’m betting on a more complete performance. The Vikings allow the third-most passing yards per game (248.7) and Green Bay should be able to split the season series.
Pick: Packers Pick’Em
Sunday and Monday Night NFL ATS picks
Falcons vs. Commanders (Sunday, Dec. 29: 8:20 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Washington -4
Psihogios says: Michael Penix Jr.’s debut didn’t turn heads, but he didn’t cost his team the game, which is more than what Kirk Cousins provided. The Commanders are a very unimpressive 10-5. They’re 1-3 against teams currently holding a playoff spot, with the lone victory being last week’s win over Kenny Pickett and the Philadelphia Eagles. I’m not claiming Atlanta is elite, but Washington has only covered this spread in six games. I’ll gladly take the points.
Pick: Falcons +4
Lions vs. 49ers (Monday, Dec. 30: 8:15 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Detroit -3.5
Psihogios says: San Francisco won’t be making the playoffs. This NFC title game rematch in primetime is essentially all it has left. Detroit has proven it can score at will, but its defence is severely depleted. The Lions have allowed the third-most points per game (32.0) over the last three weeks, while the Niners are 10th in yards per play (5.8) over the same stretch. Detroit is also playing its second road game in as many weeks. I’ll take the points at home on Monday Night Football.
Pick: 49ers +3.5
Staff Week 16 + season-long records: Closs: 11-5 (117-103-7) | | Toman: 6-9-1 (113-107-7) | Horrobin: 8-7-1 (108-112-7) | Psihogios: 7-8-1 (107-113-7) | Perri: 6-9-1 (103-117-7)
