Jets vs. Stars SGP predictions Game 6: Bet on Winnipeg, Ehlers in +390 ticket

Jets vs. Stars predictions

The Winnipeg Jets aim to stave off elimination against the Dallas Stars for a second consecutive contest.

The pregame narrative: Connor Hellebuyck has become predictably unpredictable in the postseason. I anticipate him being at his best when his team needs him most, though, and that’s why I’m backing the Winnipeg puck line and the under. Thirdly, I expect one of the Jets’ top forwards to deliver.

Check out my Jets vs. Stars playoff SGP predictions featuring Nikolaj Ehlers for Game 6 on May 17.

Jets vs. Stars predictions

Parlay: Jets +1.5 | Under 5.5 goals | Ehlers to score 1+ points (+390)

Jets +1.5 (-205): I’m not expecting much offence in this contest, which is why banking a goal with Winnipeg is worth the inflated price.

The Jets have covered this spread in three of five games this series, with two of those being 4-0 victories.

It’s certainly worth noting that Winnipeg is 0-5 on the road in the playoffs, but the team has been very good in elimination games.

Hellebuyck and company are 2-0 with their backs against the wall, and the likely Vezina Trophy winner hasn’t allowed a goal in his last six periods of do-or-die play.

Anticipate another stellar performance from one of the league’s best goaltenders in a crucial moment and back Winnipeg puck line.

NHL SGP legs

Under 5.5 goals (-113): Hellebuyck isn’t the only all-world goaltender in this series.

Jake Oettinger has been fantastic. He has a .925 save percentage through five games and has made more saves than any other goalie in the postseason (340).

Neither team is filling the net at an elite clip in the playoffs. The Jets are ninth in goals per game (2.83) and the Stars are tied for 10th (2.67).

Both squads have played to the under in more games than not this season:

  • Winnipeg has cashed the under in 58.2% of games this season (t-4th).
  • Dallas has cashed the under in 55.8% of its contests this year (8th).

The under on this total has cashed in four of five games in this series.

Ehlers to score 1+ points (-118): Lastly, I expect Ehlers to stay hot.

The Jets winger has been excellent since returning from injury in the first round. He has five goals and seven points in seven games, including four goals and five points against Dallas.

What’s become abundantly clear is that few players in the league can keep up with Ehlers’ speed. He has been able to blow by Stars defenders and generate offence routinely.

Here’s where Ehlers ranks among his teammates in several key stats:

  • 1st in shots (22)
  • 1st in expected goals (3.82)
  • 1st in shot attmempts (38)
  • 2nd in scoring chances (19)
  • 2nd in high-danger chances (8)

This is a very fair price to back Winnipeg’s most dangerous forward at.

Jets vs. Stars prop picks Game 6: Bet on Miro Heiskanen at plus money

Jets vs. Stars prop picks

The Winnipeg Jets continue their second-round comeback effort on the road in Game 6 on Saturday night.

The pregame narrative: The Jets blanked the Dallas Stars 4-0 at home on Thursday, but this has been a different series south of the border. Dallas has won both games in Texas and returns with a chance to clinch the series.

Check out my Jets vs. Stars prop picks on Nikolaj Ehlers and Miro Heiskanen for Game 6 on May 17.

Jets vs. Stars picks

Best bet: Ehlers to record a point (-134)

The offensively-minded winger has been one of the more productive Jets in this series.

  • Ehlers has six points in five games with two multi-point performances mixed in.
  • That includes five goals on 22 shots (4.4 per game)

He won’t play a ton of minutes but his role is clear when on the ice, and that’s to provide offence.

Plus, he skates on the first power play with Winnipeg’s top point producers.

Ehlers had his best season as a pro, tallying 63 points in 69 games this season. That’s a 75-point pace over a full season.

That momentum hasn’t slowed since he returned in the playoffs.

Key stat: Ehlers is on a point-per-game pace in the postseason, with five goals and seven points in seven games.

Game 6 prop prediction

Heiskanen to record a point (+100): This pick has some risks involved, but I can get around them at this value.

The star defenceman missed 32 games to finish the season after suffering an injury in January.

When healthy, Heiskanen is a constant Norris Trophy candidate and the most important defenceman on the Stars.

He made his return to play in Game 4 with just under 15 minutes of ice time. He followed that up with over 18 minutes skated on Thursday.

If the progression stays consistent, Heiskanen should be line for 20-plus minutes on ice in Game 6, which would be hugely beneficial to his chances of tallying a point.

It’s not like he’s been bad in his reduced time, either. He has an assist and four shots on net through two games.

Heiskanen is also a proven playoff performer. He has 62 points in 87 career postseason appearances.

Maple Leafs vs. Panthers prop picks Game 6: Back John Tavares and Brad Marchand on Friday night

Maple Leafs vs. Panthers prop picks

After being up 2-0, the Toronto Maple Leafs are on the brink of elimination in Game 6.

The pregame narrative: The Florida Panthers will be at home, where they’ve been strong all season. It will be a tall task for the Leafs, who are +200 to pick up the win and force a Game 7.

Brad Marchand, Aaron Ekblad and John Tavares are the targets of my Maple Leafs vs. Panthers prop picks for Game 6 on May 16.

Maple Leafs vs. Panthers picks

Best Bet: Marchand to score 1+ points (-106)

The Panthers took full advantage of Marchand’s down season with the Boston Bruins. They swooped in to trade for the winger for a measly second-round pick at the deadline.

Even though the veteran had his lowest point production in a decade this season (51), his value is clearly much higher in the playoffs.

Check out Marchand’s stats this postseason:

  • 10 games
  • 9 points
  • 7-3 against this line
  • +8 rating

He’s been a consistently productive threat in both series. Plus, he continues to haunt Toronto in its attempt to find postseason glory.

While racking up 26 penalty minutes and being the pesky winger he is, Marchand has also recorded five points and is 4-1 against this line in the series.

Key stat: Marchand has dominated the Leafs in the playoffs, recording 34 points in 33 career meetings.

Game 6 prop predictions

Ekblad to score 1+ points (+100): Florida’s defence corps continues to chip in at an elevated rate.

A defenceman factored in on all six of the Panthers’ goals in Game 5.

Ekblad led the charge, opening the scoring in the first period and later recording an assist. He has at least a point in five straight games.

Remember, he was suspended for Game 1 of this series. His return to the lineup is a key reason why the Panthers have turned things around.

If Florida continues to funnel its offence through the blue line, Ekblad will be in a prime position to keep his point streak alive.

Tavares over 2.5 shots (-130): The former captain fell short of this mark on Wednesday, but he seems to be more productive on the road in these playoffs.

  • Home: Six games, 18 shots
  • Away: Five games, 18 shots

It may not seem like much of a difference, but Tavares is 4-1 against this wager away from home and 3-3 at Scotiabank Arena.

He played his fewest minutes of the series in Game 5 (15:57). That was almost four minutes fewer than his next lowest (19:22).

With Toronto’s back against the wall, I expect a better effort out of the gate with more ice time for the top guys, including Tavares.

Maple Leafs vs. Panthers best bets Game 6: Take the under, fade Mitch Marner on Friday

Maple Leafs vs. Panthers best bets

The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the verge of elimination after coughing up a 2-0 series lead to the Florida Panthers.

The pregame narrative: Florida has won three straight and is a hefty home favourite on Friday night. Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are slumping at the worst time and will have to find a way past a surging Sergei Bobrovsky to keep Toronto’s Stanley Cup hopes alive.

Check out my Maple Leafs vs. Panthers best bets for Game 6 of the second round, featuring a fade on Marner.

Maple Leafs vs. Panthers best bets

Best Bet: Marner to not record an assist (+105)

This could be Marner’s final game as a Maple Leaf, and it looks like he’s going out with a whimper.

The embattled forward had a nightmare showing in Game 5. He logged zero points and made a careless turnover that ended up in the back of Toronto’s net.

I’m sure you’ve seen these splits before, but just take a look at what Marner has done (or hasn’t done, more accurately) in crunch time from 2020-21 onward:

  • Games 1-4: 28 GP, 8 G, 26 A
  • Games 5-7: 15 GP, 0 G, 6 A

A 0.4 PPG pace in these situations is a tough look for a player logging top minutes, and there is solid value backing Marner to not record a point at +155.

I’ll opt for a little more safety, though, by taking him to not record an assist at +105.

I’m also concerned about Matthews, who has just three goals in his last four playoff series. Toronto’s captain is snakebitten, and he tends to be Marner’s top beneficiary.

Key stat: Marner has failed to record an assist in six of 10 playoff games against Florida.

Game 6 pick

Under 5.5 goals (-118): Toronto was one goal away from putting a 3-0 stranglehold on this series.

Instead, none other than Brad Marchand scored the overtime winner, and the Maple Leafs have done nothing since.

Bobrovsky pitched a shutout in Game 4 and held Toronto to one late goal on 32 shots in Game 5. The Vezina-winning netminder is rounding into form and is the main reason why I’m taking this under.

I also expect Toronto to turn in a better effort, at least defensively, than on Wednesday.

The Maple Leafs have been a stingy team all season and aren’t afraid to clog shooting lanes and block a ton of shots. There is no excuse for Craig Berube’s group to leave anything on the table.

Stars vs. Jets SGP predictions Game 5: Bet on Dallas to advance, Rantanen to produce at +350

Stars vs. Jets predictions

The Presidents’ Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets face elimination on Thursday after losing both road games against the Dallas Stars.

The pregame narrative: Connor Hellebuyck has been brutal this postseason and must return to Vezina form to keep Winnipeg alive. The Jets are slight home favourites against the Stars’ red-hot offence, led by Mikko Rantanen.

Check out my Stars vs. Jets playoff SGP predictions featuring Rantanen and Kyle Connor for Game 5 on May 15.

Stars vs. Jets predictions

Parlay: Stars moneyline | Rantanen to score 1+ points | Connor to score 1+ points (+350)

Stars moneyline (+108): Goaltending is the great equalizer, and Hellebuyck’s play is the reason Winnipeg earned home ice throughout the postseason.

But that cuts both ways, and his horrible run has the Jets one game away from breaking out the golf clubs.

  • Regular season: 2.01 GAA, .925 SV%, 3+ goals allowed in 23 of 63 starts
  • Potseason: 3.48 GAA, .851 SV%, 3+ goals allowed in 9 of 11 starts

Dallas, meanwhile, has gotten elite play out of its goalie, Jake Oettinger. The 26-year-old has a 2.55 GAA and .917 SV% this postseason and has shut the door in back-to-back games.

It would be one thing if the Jets were dominating play at 5-on-5, but they’re not.

Winnipeg has generated just two more chances per game than Dallas. With how tightly contested things are, I have to pick the team with better goaltending.

Embed: #113792

NHL SGP legs

Rantanen to score 1+ points (-245): Rantanen has been on another planet lately, almost single-handedly pushing Dallas past the Colorado Avalanche.

He had five goals and 11 points in the final three games of that series and leads all skaters this postseason with 19 points.

The Finnish winger has seven points in four games against Winnipeg, clearing this total three times.

His line with Roope Hintz and Mikael Granlund leads Dallas in chances (41), scoring chances (25), goals (three), and xG (2.36), per Natural Stat Trick.

Conner to score 1+ points (-235): I don’t expect Oettinger to pitch a shutout, and any offence Winnipeg generates is likely to involve Connor.

  • The American is coming off a career season where he logged 41 goals and 97 points.
  • In the playoffs, he has five goals and 14 points in 11 games (8-3 vs. this line).

Connor’s line with Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi has generated double the amount of scoring chances (18) as any other line.

Look for that trio to produce again.

NHL playoff prop bets May 15: Back Svechnikov and Heiskanen on Thursday night

NHL prop bets

Thursday’s NHL playoff slate features a pair of elimination games.

The pregame narrative: The Winnipeg Jets and Washington Capitals topped their respective conferences during the regular season, but are on the ropes down 3-1. Winnipeg is favoured to extend its series against the Dallas Stars on home ice, while the Carolina Hurricanes are a road favourite in D.C.

Check out my NHL prop bets for May 15, which include predictions on Andrei Svechnikov and Miro Heiskanen.

NHL prop bets

Best bet: Svechnikov over 2.5 shots (-163)

This isn’t the most appetizing price, but I’ll make up for it later with a plus-money play on Heiskanen.

Carolina has been dominating Washington at even strength this series, and Svechnikov’s line has been at the heart of it all.

Sebastian Aho, Jackson Blake and Svechnikov have 32:19 of ice time at 5v5 this series, according to Natural Stat Trick. They’ve outchanced the opposition 51-to-28 (65.56% Corsi rate) and haven’t allowed a goal against.

Carolina’s top line hasn’t scored a 5v5 goal either, which is why I’m looking toward a shot prop.

Svechnikov has cleared this total in three of four games and five of his last six dating back to the first round against the New Jersey Devils.

The Russian winger is leading Carolina with 33 shot attempts and 16 scoring chances (quality looks) this series.

Only 10 of those have found the net, meaning we could be in for some positive regression if Svechnikov keeps firing.

Key stat: Svechnikov is leading all skaters with 76 shot attempts this postseason.

Best NHL picks

Heiskanen to record a point (+110): I understand Heiskanen just returned from a 42-game injury absence, but this price seems too good to pass up.

The Finnish defenceman logged just under 15 minutes of ice time in Game 4 and contributed with an assist in Dallas’ 3-1 victory.

Heiskanen’s playoff resume is incredible for a 25-year-old. He has 62 points in 82 career postseason games, including 16 points in 19 contests last season.

We also have to factor in the play of Connor Hellebuyck.

The soon-to-be Vezina winner has fallen apart (again) in the playoffs. He owns an awful 3.48 GAA and .851 SV% in 11 starts.
