Maple Leafs prop picks vs. Bruins Feb. 25: Back Auston Matthews, Matthew Knies to produce

Maple Leafs prop picks

The Toronto Maple Leafs head to their house of horrors to take on the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.

The pregame narrative: TD Garden hasn’t treated the Maple Leafs well in recent years, but Boston is struggling and Toronto is surging. Bet on Matthews Knies to record a point and take Auston Matthews to record an assist..

Check out my Maple Leafs prop picks vs. the Bruins for Feb. 25.

Maple Leafs prop picks vs. Bruins

Best bet: Knies to record a point (+100)

Embed: #110188

Toronto’s offence exploded out of the winter break, logging six goals against the Carolina Hurricanes and five against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Knies didn’t find the stat sheet in either game but that’s bound to change sooner than later.

The 22-year-old winger was on a heater entering the 4 Nations festivities, notching points in five of his last seven games before the break. He had five goals and four assists over that stretch.

He’s riding shotgun with Matthews and Mitch Marner on the first line and is on the top power play with that duo, as well as John Tavares and William Nylander.

That puts him in a fantastic spot to produce on a nightly basis.

Knies had the best game of his career the last time he played Boston, scoring a hat trick and adding two assists in a 6-4 victory.

It’s unclear whether Jeremy Swayman or Joonas Korpisalo will start in the net but neither has impressed. Both goalies have a sub-.900 save percentage and rank outside the top 30 in goals against average.

Also: Two of Boston’s top defencemen — Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm — are out with serious injuries.

The Leafs should roll tonight and I expect Knies to be a huge factor.

Key stat: Knies has eight points in his last three games against the Bruins.

Quick picks

Matthews to record an assist (+110): The value on this bet is too good to pass up — and in an ideal world, Matthews will be feeding Knies a puck that ends up in the back of the net.

Toronto’s captain has eight assists in his last six NHL games (clearing this line five times). He also logged three assists in three 4 Nations Face-Off games.

Matthews has three assists in two games against the Bruins this year, clearing this line in both contests.

Boston is dealing with a goaltending and defensive crisis, so this is a good spot to back a sneaky-great passer at plus money.

Picks made at 2:45 p.m. ET 02/25/2025.

Quick picks

Matthews and Pastrnak to record a point (-121): The value on this bet is too good to pass up. Matthews and Pastrnak sit at -278 and -315 to record a point, respectively, which makes sense considering their current form.

  • Matthews has at least one point in six straight games with nine total points in that span. On the season, he’s found the stat sheet in 31 of 42 games (73.8%).
  • Pastrnak has points in 14 straight games with 27 total points in that span. On the season, he’s found the stat sheet in 42 of 58 games (72.4%).

And both superstars tend to show up against the opposing team.

Pastrnak has 40 points in 31 regular-season games against Toronto and Matthews has 26 points in 21 regular-season games versus Boston.

NHL prop picks Feb. 24: Bet on Celebrini and Doughty on Monday

NHL prop picks

There are only two games on the NHL schedule but no worries, I’ve got one prop pick from each to share.

The pregame narrative: The San Jose Sharks have seemingly handed the keys on offence to Macklin Celebrini and I can’t blame them. I’ll back the rookie to score a point while taking Drew Doughty to do the same in the late-night game.

Check out my NHL prop picks for Feb. 24.

Best Bet: Celebrini to score 1+ points (-127)

Since the departure of Mikael Granlund, Celebrini is far and away the best player on this offence and the coaching staff is treating him as such.

Let’s take a look at his stats over the past six games:

  • three goals, three assists
  • 3.4 shots per game
  • 20:53 average time on ice

He played 20-plus minutes in five of those games and logged at least 22 shifts in each contest, per Hockey Reference.

This is arguably the worst matchup in the NHL for an opposing forward as the Winnipeg Jets allow the fewest goals (2.4) per game. But Celebrini has been successful in this spot before.

Key stat: In the Sharks’ first meeting with the Jets, Celebrini had a goal and an assist in just over 18 minutes on ice.

Quick picks

Doughty to score 1+ points (+108): On Saturday, I backed Doughty to score a point at similar odds and he had his best game of the season so far.

The veteran defenceman took the momentum gained from being a part of Team Canada and turned out a three-point performance against the Utah Hockey Club.

Monday’s matchup is more difficult because the Vegas Golden Knights allow the sixth-fewest goals against (2.7).

But the Los Angeles Kings are the NHL’s best home team (18-3-2) and their offence is elite at Crypto.com Arena.

They score 3.3 goals per game at home compared to 2.5 per game on the road.

If L.A. can tally a few goals, I’d be surprised if Doughty wasn’t heavily involved. He has four points in seven games this season and finished with 52 in 80 in 2023-24.

Maple Leafs vs. Blackhawks props Feb. 23: Bet on Marner to shine in plus-money pick

Maple Leafs vs. Blackhawks props

The Toronto Maple Leafs battle the Chicago Blackhawks in a game that should feature plenty of offence.

The pregame narrative: Mitch Marner had a strong showing at the 4 Nations Face-Off and I expect him to feast against a weak Chicago Blackhawks defence. William Nylander is poised to snap his goalless drought, while John Tavares is a good choice to beat his shot prop.

Check out my Maple Leafs vs. Blackhawks props for Feb. 23.

Maple Leafs vs. Blackhawks props

Best Bet: Marner to score 2+ points (+145)

Toronto should score plenty in this contest.

The Maple Leafs are fresh off a six-goal showing against the stingy Carolina Hurricanes and face a much easier defensive side in Chicago.

The Blackhawks have been absolutely dreadful defensively. They rank:

  • 30th in goals against per game (3.46)
  • 30th in shots against per game (31.6)
  • 30th in scoring chances against per 60 (30.41)

Toronto, meanwhile, is a competent 12th in goals per game (3.13) and should be able to fill the net.

That likely means a standout performance from Toronto’s top point producer.

Marner has 71 points in 55 games and should be able to notch a couple of points against Chicago.

Key stat: Marner has four two-point outings in his last 10 games.

Quick picks

Nylander anytime goal (+120): Nylander remains a solid value on this market for the Maple Leafs.

He has the second-best odds to tally a goal at +123, but there’s a solid case to make that he should boast the shortest odds. His 33 goals are second only to Leon Draisaitl’s 41 across the NHL this year.

He enters this game on a three-game goalless drought, but he was riding a three-game goal streak (five total) before that.

Nylander should be able to put one past Chicago netminder Arvid Söderblom. Söderblom has allowed 12 goals in his last three games and owns a brutal .886 save percentage during this stretch.

Tavares over 2.5 shots (-106): Chicago is a prime team to back players’ shot props against.

The Blackhawks are ceding the third-most shots per game and that’s good news for Tavares. The Maple Leafs forward is third on his team in shots (134) and second on the squad in scoring chances per 60 (10.9).

Chicago has been especially bad defensively since the calendar flipped to 2025. It’s allowing the most shots per game (35.4) since Jan. 1.

Tavares recorded three shots in last night’s victory over Carolina.

NHL anytime goal picks: Bet on Maple Leafs’ Tavares and Nylander to score

NHL anytime goal picks

A pair of Toronto Maple Leafs headline my top NHL anytime goal picks for Sunday’s slate.

The pregame narrative: William Nylander and John Tavares are staring down a plus matchup and are solid picks to score a goal. Elsewhere, Jonathan Huberdeau is a solid pick to light the lamp as the Calgary Flames battle the San Jose Sharks.

Check out my NHL anytime goal picks for Feb. 23.

NHL anytime goal picks

Best Bet: Nylander anytime goal (+120)

It’s a little odd to see the NHL’s No. 2 goalscorer also hold the second-best odds to score a goal on his team, but that’s where Nylander sits on most nights.

It’s just how it goes when you play with Auston Matthews, but the Swedish forward has certainly emerged as the better value.

Nylander has 33 goals on the season which is only behind Leon Draisaitl’s 41 markers.

He’s goalless in his last three games, but he was riding a three-game goal streak before that (five total goals).

The matchup is right for the Toronto Maple Leafs star to strike, also. His opponent, the Chicago Blackhawks, ranks:

  • 30th in goals against per game (3.46)
  • 30th in shots against per game (31.6)
  • 30th in scoring chances against per 60 (30.41)

Chicago has allowed 11 goals against in its last two games and I expect the Maple Leafs to score plenty.

Key stat: Nylander has nine goals in his last 11 games.

Other picks

Tavares anytime goal (+170): For those looking to back a Maple Leafs scorer at longer odds, Tavares is a natural pivot.

The Toronto centre is having a quality campaign. His 22 goals are second on the team this season and he just scored a goal in Saturday’s 6-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Arvid Söderblom starts for Chicago and he’s been dreadful lately. He’s allowed 12 goals in his last three outings and owns a .886 save percentage during this stretch.

Tavares is third on the Maple Leafs in expected goals (20.08), according to Natural Stat Trick, and he’s a solid choice to net a tally in a plus matchup.

Huberdeau anytime goal (+175): These are nice odds for Huberdeau to deliver a lamplighter.

The Calgary winger leads his team in goals (21) and points (41) this campaign. He’s heating up with two goals in his last four games, and he should be able to carry his strong form into Sunday’s matchup.

The Flames battle the defensively and goaltending inept Sharks. San Jose cedes the most goals per game (3.72) and ranks a brutal 24th on the penalty kill (75.4%).

The Sharks have the worst expected goals against in the NHL (3.55) and Huberdeau is a logical choice as I look to pick on San Jose.

NHL prop picks Feb. 22: Bet Boeser and Holloway on Saturday

NHL prop picks

The NHL is back and I have two prop picks for Saturday’s loaded schedule.

The pregame narrative: I have a pick on Brock Boeser on Saturday as the winger is expected to pick up the slack for injured teammates. I also like Dylan Holloway to get on the score sheet on Saturday.

Check out my NHL prop picks for Feb. 22.

NHL prop picks

Best Bet: Boeser to score 1+ points (-120)

The Vancouver Canucks have been the NHL’s most unpredictable team this season.

They were outside a playoff spot for much of the season but are currently holding the final spot following a three-game win streak heading into the break.

The Canucks are much better on the road (15-8-4) than at home (11-10-7) and are the only team in the league with double-digit overtime losses (11).

They recently traded away top point producer J.T. Miller and will be missing Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson on Saturday.

Someone will need to step up and my money’s on Boeser. The winger has eight points in the last 11 games and should see an uptick in playing time with Pettersson sidelined.

Boeser has logged 20-plus minutes in eight games this season, including in three of the last five.

The Vegas Golden Knights provide a tough matchup, but that gives bettors a nice buy-low opportunity.

Holloway to score 1+ points (+105): Holloway was an impactful player for the Edmonton Oilers during their run to the Stanley Cup Final last year.

He used that strong play to earn a two-year contract with the St. Louis Blues. So far, he’s making the most of it.

Holloway ranks third on the Blues in points with 40 in 56 games. Since Dec. 23, he has 21 points in 21 games and is 14-7 against this line.

The Winnipeg Jets allow the fewest goals per game (2.4) but they’re worse on the road and will be starting Eric Comrie to give Connor Hellebuyck some much-needed rest.

Picks made at 1:30 p.m. ET on 02/22/2025.

Maple Leafs vs. Hurricanes props Feb. 22: Look for Tavares and Jarvis to contribute on offence

Maple Leafs vs. Hurricanes props

The Toronto Maple Leafs host the Carolina Hurricanes in a marquee matchup following the break.

The pregame narrative: John Tavares has been playing inspiring hockey since returning from injury and I like the veteran to record a point tonight. Seth Jarvis is also primed for a big showing following a stint with Team Canada.

Check out my Maple Leafs vs. Hurricanes props for Feb. 22.

Maple Leafs vs. Hurricanes props

Best bet: Tavares to score 1+ points (-129)

Embed: #110007

The first meeting between the Leafs and Hurricanes this season wasn’t good for Toronto or Tavares.

On Jan. 9, Carolina won 6-3 and the former captain finished with no points and a -1 rating. Two positives to note were his four shots and 18:59 of ice time.

Shortly after that, Tavares would miss multiple weeks with injury. But he was rolling in his four games back before the break.

  • 1+ points in 3/4 games.
  • Since Dec. 12, Tavares has 22 points in 21 games.

Tavares scored 65 points in 80 games last season and looked like a shell of himself at times. He’s playing much better this year, tallying 45 points in 48 games.

Carolina is a very good defensive team, giving up the sixth-fewest goals (2.7) per game, but Tavares has been extremely consistent in the offensive zone regardless of the matchup.

Key stat: Tavares has at least a point in 32 of 48 games (66.7%).

Quick pick

Jarvis to score 1+ points (-139): Jarvis was on a heater heading into the break.

  • He had four points his last time out (vs. Utah on Feb. 8).
  • He has 15 points in 13 games since Jan. 13.

The 23-year-old should be beaming with confidence right now after breaking into Canada’s lineup and contributing to the tournament win.

After the Hurricanes traded for Mikko Rantanen, Jarvis now plays with him on the first line alongside another Finn, Sebastian Aho.

That is one of the strongest trios in the entire NHL, and the Canadian winger is benefiting nicely.

Jarvis scored a goal in that first meeting with the Leafs. I expect another strong performance on Saturday.

Picks made at 12:05 p.m. ET on 02/22/2025.

NHL prop picks Feb. 22: Bet on Doughty, Boeser and Holloway on Saturday

NHL prop picks

The NHL is back and I have three prop picks for Saturday’s loaded schedule.

The pregame narrative: Drew Doughty made his mark for Team Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off and I believe he can carry that momentum into the NHL regular season. I have picks on Brock Boeser and Dylan Holloway, too.

Check out my NHL prop picks for Feb. 22.

NHL prop picks

Best Bet: Doughty to score 1+ points (-107)

Doughty missed the first portion of the season recovering from injury, but what better way to shake off the rust than with a call-up to Team Canada?

And the veteran defenceman played an important role in the Canadians’ tournament win.

He played just shy of 21 minutes in the final against the USA, the fourth most among Canada’s defencemen.

Not bad for his 10th game of hockey since the injury.

In six appearances with the Los Angeles Kings this season, Doughty only has one point. But I truly believe playing on the international stage with the best players in the world will have a positive effect on him moving forward.

He’s playing typical top-defenceman minutes (26:57), but the production hasn’t matched … yet.

Doughty recorded 50 points in 82 games last season and still has plenty left in the tank at 35 years old.

Key stat: The Kings are 17-3-2 at home, scoring 3.3 goals per game.

Quick picks

They were outside a playoff spot for much of the season but are currently holding the final spot following a three-game win streak heading into the break.
