Canada vs. Guatemala Gold Cup men’s soccer odds and best bet: Take the under in quarterfinal match

Canada vs. Guatemala odds

The Canadian men’s national team won Group B, setting up a quarterfinal match with Guatemala.

The pregame narrative: Canada went 2-0-1 in the group stage, conceding just won goal along the way. Les Rouges have netted nine goals on offence and are heavily favoured to advance past Guatemala at the Gold Cup.

Best bet

Under 2.5 goals (+120): Although Canada scored nine times in the group stage, six of those goals came against Honduras in the opening match.

Since then, the Canadians have scored three goals in two matches and needed the help of two red cards from El Salvador to win 2-0.

Les Rouges has it in them to score in bunches, but injuries and other absences have left a relatively new group still finding chemistry.

Canada holding another clean sheet will also be important for this pick, but I’m not too worried about that.

The side has done so in three of its past four matches. One of those games was against Ivory Coast, which sits No. 41 in the FIFA Rankings, 64 spots above Guatemala.

You could back Guatemala under 0.5 goals at -106 if you prefer, but I like the plus-money odds with insurance for a 1-1 draw that needs extra time.

The underdog should come out with a nothing-to-lose attitude, so expect a physical match with lots of whistles and a slow pace, similar to the match with El Salvador.

Key stat: Canada and Guatemala have a combined 4-2 record against this wager at the Gold Cup.

Sunday’s games

USA vs. Costa Rica
July 29: 10:15 p.m.

  • The United States went 3-0-0 in the group stage, beating Saudi Arabia, Trinidad & Tobago, and Haiti by an aggregate score of 8-1.
  • Five players have scored for the USA in the absence of Timothy Weah, Christian Pulisic, and Weston McKennie, who are not in the squad for this tournament. That type of depth scoring will be needed to continue this Gold Cup run.

Canada vs. Guatemala
July 29: 4:00 p.m.

  • Canada capitalized on a red card to secure a 2-0 win over El Salvador and punch its ticket to the quarterfinal. Les Rouges have outscored their opponents 9-1 and have an exceptionally strong squad, even with Alphonso Davies (knee) out of the lineup.
  • Tajon Buchanan leads the way with three goals and slots in alongside Promise David and Jonathan David, who are both in great form.
  • Canada currently sits 30th in FIFA’s rankings, which is the squad’s best-ever position on the men’s side. Jesse Marsch’s squad is 76 spots higher than Guatemala, which played three one-goal games in the group stage, going 2-0-1.

Saturday’s games

Mexico vs. Saudi Arabia
July 28: 10:15 p.m.

  • Reigning champion Mexico is an unbeaten 2-1-0 through three games but hasn’t looked its sharpest. The squad conceded twice in a 3-2 win over the Dominican Republic and logged a scoreless draw against Costa Rica.
  • Saudi Arabia was a special invitee to this event and went 1-1-1 in the group stage. That included a narrow loss to the Americans, 1-0. Remember, this group upset Argentina in the 2022 World Cup group stage.

Panama vs. Honduras
July 28: 7:15 p.m.

  • Panama looks like a solid dark horse to win this event after going 3-0-0 in the group stage while scoring a tournament-best 10 goals. It faces a Honduras side that snuck through with a -3 goal differential.

Juventus vs. Manchester City SGP predictions June 26: Bet on Haaland and Yildiz at the FIFA Club World Cup

Juventus vs. Manchester City predictions

The final day of the FIFA Club World Cup group stage begins on Thursday with a big matchup between Juventus and Manchester City.

The pregame narrative: Both teams are already through to the Round of 16 after convincingly winning their first two games, but the top spot in Group G is still up for grabs. Manchester City is on a four-game winning streak dating back to May 20, while Juventus has been in great form under its new manager.

Check out my Juventus vs. Manchester City SGP predictions for June 26, featuring Erling Haaland and Kenan Yildiz.

Juventus vs. Manchester City predictions

Parlay: Manchester City under 2.5 goals | Haaland 1+ SOT | Yildiz 1+ SOT (+285)

Manchester City under 2.5 goals (-335): If you want to bump up the value on this SGP from +285 to +525, you could take Manchester City under 1.5 goals, which is +102 as a standalone.

I think that’s a viable play, but will opt for more safety by teasing the total up a goal.

Juventus has been a great defensive team all season, whether it was with Thiago Motta coaching or the newly appointed Igor Tudor.

Since Tudor joined on March 23, Juventus is 7-3-1, holding 10 of those opponents under 1.5 goals. Granted, Juve hasn’t gone up against a team like Manchester City yet, which has all-world striker Haaland at the helm.

But Man City has some problems of its own, especially in the midfield, with Rodri not back to playing full 90s and Kevin De Bruyne leaving for Napoli.

City won 6-0 against UAE side Al Ain on Sunday, but went under 2.5 goals in eight of nine games before that.

Other SGP legs

Haaland 1+ SOT (-455): Haaland is coming off a “down season” for the Citizens. I put that in quotations because he still scored 22 goals in 31 EPL games, while adding another eight in the Champions League.

That’s well below his career highs with Man City, but it just goes to show you what kind of floor the Norwegian possesses.

Haaland scored a goal and added an assist during Saturday’s rout of Al Ain and added a team-high four shots on target.

He’s registered a SOT in 20 of 24 fixtures this year, with multiple shots on target in 12 of those games.

Yildiz 1+ SOT (+132): Yildiz has become a favourite of Tudor, and it’s not hard to see why.

  • The Turkish national has scored in three straight games with the club.
  • He has logged a goal contribution in six of his last nine games.
  • During that stretch, he has eight shots on target, going 6-3 vs. this line.

Yildiz has been the driving force of Juventus’ attack this tournament, slotting in a deadly top three with Kolo Muani and Francisco Conceicao.

Canada vs. El Salvador Gold Cup men’s soccer odds and best bet: Bet on Les Rouges to be strong defensively

Canada vs. El Salvador odds

The Canadian men’s national team can lock up Group B at the Gold Cup with a win over El Salvador.

The pregame narrative: Canada was disappointing against Curacao, drawing 1-1, but the result put the side in a great position to win the group. El Salvador hasn’t scored at the tournament yet and sits in last place in Group B heading into this match.

Canada vs. El Salvador odds as of 1:02 p.m. ET on 06/23/2024.

Best bet

El Salvador under 0.5 goals (-138): El Salvador is goalless at the Gold Cup, and it’s hard to see that changing vs. Canada.

  • Canada has conceded one goal through two matches.
  • El Salvador ranks last in the Gold Cup with 0.6 expected goals. The next closest team has 1.2.

And the side hasn’t played a team as talented as Canada. Honduras and Curacao are both No. 75 or lower in the FIFA World Rankings, while Les Rouges rank No. 30.

El Salvador just doesn’t generate many offensive chances. In addition to ranking last in goals for and xG for, take a look at some other offensive stats, according to FotMob:

  • Last in shots on goal (1.0 per game)
  • Last in big chances (0)
  • Fourth-fewest touches in opponents’ box (25)

The nation hasn’t created a single big chance — meaning an opportunity in which the player is expected to score — at this tournament. That makes it easy to continue fading El Salvador against the defensively sound Canadians.

Canada has conceded 1.7 xG through two games at the Gold Cup.

Key stat: Les Rouges have allowed one goal in their past three games, including an impressive clean sheet against Ivory Coast (No. 41) at the Canadian Shield earlier this month.

Lionel Messi props vs. Palmeiras June 23: Bet on Inter Miami star in FIFA Club World Cup match

Lionel Messi props

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are back in action at the FIFA Club World Cup on Monday with a chance to win Group A.

The pregame narrative: Messi scored the game-winning goal against Porto on June 19, keeping Miami unbeaten through two fixtures. Its Matchday 3 opponent, Palmeiras, is also 1-1-0, meaning a win would put the Herons atop the group and into the knock stage.

Check out these Lionel Messi props for the June 23 game against Palmeiras.

Best Bet: Messi to score or assist (+148)

Father Time hasn’t caught up with Messi just yet.

The Argentine legend has been scoring at a monstrous clip since joining Inter Miami, and has 10 goals through 13 MLS games this season.

He’s also added six assists, which puts him well in contention to lead the league once the Herons catch up on games after this tournament.

Messi and Miami were shut out in a 0-0 draw to open this tournament, but the 37-year-old capitalized on this vintage free kick the following game:

Palmeiras is a respectable club, sitting fourth in the Brazilian Serie A. But they’re far from unbeatable.

And with Palmeiras currently ahead on goal differential, I expect Inter Miami to be gunning for goals.

Key stat: Messi is 10-7 against this line with Inter Miami this year.

FIFA Club World Cup predictions June 22: Best bets for Real Madrid vs. CF Pachuco, Manchester City vs. Al Ain

FIFA Club World Cup predictions

The FIFA Club World Cup continues on June 22 with a four-game matchday.

Check out the best FIFA Club World Cup predictions for Sunday’s group-stage matches.

FIFA Club World Cup predictions

Best bet: Manchester City/Al Ain over 3.5 goals (+100)

This is a total I believe Manchester City can cover by itself.

  • Al Ain is coming off a 5-0 loss to Juventus.
  • Man City is coming off a 2-0 win, but I believe that opponent, Wydad AC, is a better team than the side from the United Arab Emirates.

The good news is that Al Ain is an offensive-minded club. It has the second-most goals (56) in the UAE Pro League (one fewer than the leader), with 32 goals against (10 more than the leader).

Manchester City has a very good offence, but its defence can be underwhelming, explaining why I’m opting to take the over on the game total.

Key stat: The English side scored the second-most goals in the Premier League this season (72).

Bayern Munich vs. Auckland City best bet

Real Madrid/CF Pachuca over 3 goals (-120): Real Madrid takes a step down in competition for this match, so I want to take advantage.

Los Blancos drew 1-1 with Al Hilal in the first game. For those who don’t know, Al Hilal is a Saudi club that features a ton of international stars who made the move from Europe’s top teams.

So that was a tough matchup, and I expect more offence from Madrid here.

CF Pachuca doesn’t have the same talent. The Mexican side allowed two goals to RB Salzburg in its first match.

Salzburg is good, but the German club is a sizeable underdog (+300) to defeat Al Hilal tomorrow, showcasing the different levels in Group H.

The likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo lead an electric Madrid attack. All three of those players are better than any player on Salzburg.

This has all the makings of a mismatch, and Real Madrid should grab its first FIFA CWC win in style.

Canada vs. Curacao Gold Cup SGP predictions June 21: Back Jonathan David and Canada at +340

Canada vs. Curacao predictions

Canada looks to build off its strong start at the Gold Cup when it takes on Curacao on Saturday.

The pregame narrative: The Canadians throttled Honduras, 6-0, in their opening match at the tournament and are sizable favourites at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston. Jesse Marsch’s squad is now on a four-game unbeaten run in regulation.

Check out my Canada vs. Curacao SGP predictions for June 21, featuring Jonathan David.

Canada vs. Curacao predictions

Parlay: Canada halftime/full time | Jonathan David to score | Under 5.5 goals (+340)

Canada halftime/full time (-134): My colleague Spencer Closs backed Canada on this market as his best bet for Saturday’s game, and the line has already moved in his favour (was sitting at -125 at 1:25 p.m. on June 19).

I’m also keen to get aboard the Canada halftime/full time train, because Marsch’s squad is on an offensive rampage right now.

Promise David has slotted in alongside Jonathan David and a red-hot Tajon Buchanan to form a deadly attacking trio.

Canada beat Ukraine, 4-2, in addition to putting up six against Honduras. That marked its first win against a European opponent since 2011.

Both Ukraine (No. 21) and Honduras (No. 41) are ranked well above No. 91 Curacao. When Les Rouges last played Curacao, they took a 2-0 lead into halftime and won.

The Canadians have also logged back-to-back clean sheets in regulation, so I can see a 1-0 halftime lead being enough.

Go to full Canada vs. Curacao betting markets

Other SGP legs

David to score (-103): Promise is getting a lot of shine after scoring in his first two caps with the team, and deservedly so, but I’ll still roll with Jonathan to net one on Saturday.

After all, he is the nation’s all-time leading scorer.

With 34 goals in 64 games, David has been a consistently reliable scorer for Les Rouges. He’s also blossomed into an elite talent overseas, netting 25-plus goals in three consecutive seasons with Lille across all competitions.

David was held off the score sheet against Honduras but scored in four of six games for Canada before that, including a brace against Ukraine.

Under 5.5 goals (-560): Canada cleared this line on its own on Tuesday, but that was on home soil — which plays a huge factor in international fixtures.

On a neutral site, I expect Canada to win, but not by that margin.

Curacao is a low-ranked side, but it still played El Salvador to a 0-0 draw in its Gold Cup opener. It has gone under this mark in 13 of its last 14 games, with the exception being a 5-1 win over Haiti in World Cup qualifiers.

Canada vs. Curacao predictions made at 12:20 p.m. on 06/20/2025.
