FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinal predictions July 5: Expect plenty of goals when Dortmund plays Real Madrid

FIFA Club World Cup predictions

The second half of the FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals is on Saturday.

The latest: Reigning Champions League winners Paris SG take on Bayern Munich to start the action at noon ET. After that, Real Madrid battles Borussia Dortmund. Both German clubs are underdogs to advance.

FIFA Club World Cup predictions

Best bet: Madrid vs. Dortmund over 3.5 goals (+140)

This match has the chance to be a spectacle.

Dortmund closed out its season by playing in a boatload of barnburners, going over 3.5 goals in nine of 10 matches heading into this tournament.

That includes a 4-0 loss to Barcelona, a 3-1 win against Barcelona, and a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich. Madrid is very much on the level of those teams, and I can see it filling the net against BVB’s defence.

But Dortmund should also be able to exploit Madrid’s backline, which was horrible in big matches all season.

Los Blancos conceded 16 goals in four games against Barcelona and gave up a pair of three-goal spots against AC Milan and Arsenal in the Champions League.

Injuries played a big part in that, but Madrid is still without a lot of its studs. Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and David Alaba are all out.

Key stat: There have been an average of 3.8 goals scored across Dortmund’s last 15 matches.

Paris SG vs. Bayern Munich best bet

Bayern Munich under 1.5 goals (-163): Is this a lot of juice? Yes. But is PSG’s defence impregnable? Also, yes.

Luis Enrique’s side plays a relentless brand of football based around a high press and retaining possession.

We’ve already seen PSG embarrass a number of top-end sides like Inter Milan in the UCL final (5-0) and Atletico Madrid in the group stage of this tournament (4-0).

All and all, the Parisians have conceded just one goal in their last six games — and it somehow came against a mid-table Brazilian team, Botafogo.

Many teams would kill to have Bayern’s attack, but I just can’t see it lighting things up against PSG.

FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinal predictions: Best bets for Chelsea vs. Palmeiras, Fluminense vs. Al Hilal

FIFA Club World Cup predictions

The FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals kick off on the Fourth of July and wrap up the following day.

The latest: Chelsea looks to keep rolling in its matchup against Palmeiras, a Brazilian side that hasn’t been tested to this point. Before that, Fluminense and Al Hilal meet with a spot in the semifinals up for grabs.

Check out the best FIFA Club World Cup predictions for the quarterfinal matches on July 4.

FIFA Club World Cup predictions

Best bet: Chelsea to win (+108)

Chelsea looks like a true contender to win the FIFA CWC.

  • The English club went 2-1 in the group stage, with the one loss coming in a game where attacker Nicolas Jackson was shown a red card.
  • Chelsea beat Benfica, 4-1, in the round of 16.
  • The side from London has scored in each match so far and is averaging 2.5 goals per game.

Its quarterfinal opponent, Palmeiras, hasn’t faced much competition to this point and will take a big step up against Chelsea.

The Brazilian side has faced Porto, Inter Miami, Al Ahly and Botafogo at the FIFA CWC.

Miami is the best of the four teams, and it drew 1-1 with Palmeiras.

Key stat: Chelsea is 6-1 in its last seven matches across all competitions.

Fluminense vs. Al Hilal best bet

Fluminense/Al Hilal over 2.5 goals (-105): Al Hilal is coming off a 4-3 thriller over Manchester City in the round of 16.

That offensive outburst is nothing new to the Saudi side. It leads the Saudi Pro League with 95 goals for. The next closest team has 80.

With that comes some defensive woes, however. Al Hilal has conceded more goals (41) than any other team in the top five.

Fluminense just upset Inter Milan in the round of 16 and scored two goals against one of the best defences in Europe this past season.

Either of these teams could break out for a few goals, with a back-and-forth contest also a strong possibility.

CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal predictions: Back USA and Mexico to win comfortably

Gold Cup predictions

Four nations remain in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, with a pair of semifinal matchups on Wednesday.

The latest: The USA and Mexico are on a collision course for the final, as each country is a massive favourite to win their respective game. The Americans first play Guatemala before Mexico takes on Honduras.

Check out the best CONCACAF Gold Cup predictions for Wednesday’s semifinal matches.

CONCACAF Gold Cup predictions

Best bet: Mexico halftime/fulltime (-130)

Mexico is the class of this tournament, and has been for a long time.

The Tricolour have a record nine Gold Cup titles and are two matches away from defending their 2023 championship. So far, so good.

Javier Aguirre’s squad has conceded a tournament-low two goals, and both came in its opening match against the Dominican Republic.

Three clean sheets later, and I anticipate this Mexican squad winning it all.

Aguirre has a 10-3-3 record since Aguirre took over in July 2024, and has only lost one game on home or neutral ground in that span.

Honduras got smashed 6-0 by Canada to open up this tournament and also lost 5-0 to Mexico when these teams played last November.

The Trioclour are -177 to record a clean sheet, which I expect to happen. A first-half goal should probably seal the deal here.

Key stat: Mexico has allowed zero shots on target over the last two games

USA vs. Guatemala best bet

USA halftime/fulltime (-130): Hats off to Guatemala, which just toppled Canada as a sizeable underdog on Sunday.

Los Chapines capitalized on a red card to Jacob Shaffelburg and dominated possession in the second half, scoring a tying goal before winning on penalties.

But the Americans likely won’t go down to 10 men and should handle inferior competition.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side has produced offensively even without Timothy Weah, Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie, who are absent from this tournament.

It’s scored 10 goals through four games and held 61% possession against Costa Rica in the quarterfinal.

Guatemala, meanwhile, had been held to one or fewer goals in four of its last five games.

FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 prop picks: Bet on Lautaro Martinez and Serhou Guirassy

FIFA Club World Cup prop picks

The FIFA Club World Cup has reached the round of 16.

The latest: Borussia Dortmund topped Group F, setting up a favourable matchup against CF Monterrey in the first round of the knockout stage. Before that, Lautaro Martinez looks to lead Inter Milan’s attack in its match against Fluminense.

Check out the best FIFA Club World Cup prop picks for the round of 16 matches featuring Martinez and Serhou Guirassy.

FIFA Club World Cup prop picks

Bet on the FIFA Club World Cup now

Best Bet: Guirassy to score (-120)

Guriassy isn’t burying goals at a high clip at the moment, but it hasn’t been due to a shortage of chances.

In the final two group stage fixtures, he had seven shots on target in total.

Monterrey is a side in the Mexican league (Liga MX) and did well in the group stage, finishing with two draws and a win.

The team also conceded just one goal against Inter Milan, but clean sheets against a Japanese side (Urawa Reds) and River Plate don’t make Monterrey a defensive juggernaut.

Inter Milan had 15 shot attempts in its game against Monterrey in the group stage.

Key stat: Guirassy had 21 goals in 29 starts in the Bundesliga this past season.

Inter Milan vs. Fuminense best bet

Maritnez to score (+150): Martinez is a goal-scoring machine for Inter Milan.

  • He scored in two of the three group stage matches.
  • He attempted 11 shots total in those fixtures.

The Argentine attacker went on a tear over the second half of this past season. Since Jan. 6, he has scored in 16 of 30 matches for the Italian giant (18 goals total).

And now he gets a soft matchup against Fluminense, the sixth-place team in the Brazilian Serie A. The side has allowed more goals (12) than any other top-eight team in its league.

The team also conceded just one goal against Inter Milan, but clean sheets against a Japanese side (Urawa Reds) and River Plate don’t make Monterrey a defensive juggernaut.

Besides, Dortmund’s striker doesn’t need to score to cash this wager. He just needs a couple of opportunities in front of goal.

Inter Milan had 15 shot attempts in its game against Monterrey in the group stage.

Key stat: Guirassy has cleared this line in six of his past nine matches across all competitions with Borussia Dortmund.

Canada vs. Guatemala Gold Cup quarterfinal SGP predictions: Bet on Canada to win in +320 parlay

Canada vs. Guatemala predictions

Canada and Guatemala meet with a spot in the Gold Cup semifinal up for grabs.

The pregame narrative: The Canadians won two and drew one, which was enough to top Group B. That set up a favourable quarterfinal match against Guatemala, which is the lowest-ranked side remaining at the tournament.

Check out my Canada vs. Guatemala SGP predictions for June 29, featuring Jonathan David.

Canada vs. Guatemala predictions

Parlay: Canada to win | Guatemala under 0.5 goals | Jonathan David to score (+320)

Canada to win (-295): Les Rouges are sitting at No. 30 in the FIFA rankings and could continue to rise with a deep run at the Gold Cup.

And their next opponent, Guatemala, certainly doesn’t match Canada in talent, ranking 106th in the world (76 spots below the Canadians).

The side did well in the group stage, winning two games and claiming the second spot behind Panama.

But it was gifted the easiest group, avoiding USA, Mexico and Canada. Wins against Jamaica and Guadeloupe certainly don’t make Guatemala a contender.

Canada had a letdown performance against Curacao in its second match, but other than that, Jesse Marsch’s squad has been in outstanding form.

Les Rouges have a 6-0 win over Honduras, the side that finished second in the group, and a 2-0 win over El Salvador.

The offence has gone through dry spells, but the defence has met the standard every step of the way.

Other SGP legs

Guatemala under 0.5 goals (-117): That brings me to the next leg of the parlay.

  • Canada joins USA as the only two teams to concede one goal or less in the group stage.
  • Guatemala recorded 3.8 xG in three games in the group stage against worse opponents.

Les Rouges are on a fantastic run defensively. They have three clean sheets in their past four games, dating back to a 0-0 draw with Ivory Coast earlier in June.

At the Gold Cup, Canada’s goalies have only needed to make three saves on four total shots on goal. That’s the fewest of any side at the tournament.

David to score (+115): In a big match, I expect Canada’s best player to shine through.

David only has one goal to this point, but he is easily Canada’s most decorated goalscorer.

  • He has 35 goals in 66 international caps, including four in seven games to start 2025.
  • The 25-year-old attacker had 23 goals in 36 starts across the French Ligue 1 and Champions League this season.

Because of that, he is rumoured to be making a move to Juventus once his contract for Lille comes to an end in a few days.

Additionally, David is the penalty taker for Canada, which could help cash this bet if the opportunity for a spot kick arises.

PSG vs. Inter Miami SGP predictions June 29: Bet on Paris to win in FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16

PSG vs. Tottenham odds

PSG meets up with Inter Miami in the FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 on Sunday.

The pregame narrative: The Parisians are fresh off a Champions League title and are massive favourites to advance past a far inferior MLS side. Lionel Messi has been instrumental in getting the Herons to this point, but will need to turn back the clock to eliminate his old team.

Check out my PSG vs. Inter Miami SGP predictions for June 29, featuring Messi and Ousmane Dembele.

PSG vs. Inter Miami predictions

Parlay: PSG halftime/fulltime | Dembele to score | Messi under 2.5 shots (+340)

PSG halftime/fulltime (-175): I’m expecting a one-sided affair at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday.

PSG earned the title of European champions after knocking out several top-end teams en route to their blowout win in the UCL final:

  • Round of 16: Beat Liverpool (EPL champions)
  • Semifinal: Beat Arsenal (EPL runners-up)
  • Final: Beat Inter Milan (Serie A runners-up)

The Parisians’ title win came in a 5-0 thrashing, and PSG picked up where it left off in the FIFA Club World Cup with a 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid.

Luis Enrique’s side took a shocking loss in the following game, but that was without several starters, including Ballon d’Or contender Ousmane Dembele, in the lineup.

Inter Miami is a good team by MLS standards, but expecting it to compete against a well-oiled machine like PSG is taking things too far.

Messi is only one man, and he just turned 38 years old. I’ll side with the younger, more talented squad all day.

Go to full PSG vs. Inter Miami betting markets

Other SGP legs

Dembele to score (-122): Dembele has built a very strong case to win the Ballon d’Or.

He led PSG with 21 goals in Ligue 1 and added another eight in their Champions League campaign — and that’s not even to mention everything else he does as a playmaker and defender.

The Frenchman sat out the first three games for PSG, which means he should be fresh for this elimination stage game.

Dembele has averaged 0.87 non-penalty xG per 90 over the last 365 days. That ranks in the 98th percentile compared to positional peers in Men’s Big 5 Leagues, UCL, and UEL, per FBRef.

Messi under 2.5 shots (-120): Fading Messi is no fun, but I expect PSG to dominate possession in this fixture and keep Inter Miami backed into its own final third.

Enrique’s side employs relentless pressing tactics that force opponents to make passes and, ultimately, mistakes.

The Parisians held 73% possession against the Seattle Sounders — another MLS side — in their last game. That marked the fourth time in the last five games PSG held over 70% possession, with the outlier being against Inter Milan in the UCL Final. But even then, PSG had 60%.

If Miami can’t get the ball, Messi won’t be able to work his magic.

The Argentinian has also gone under this mark in back-to-back games against far worse teams than PSG.

Canada vs. Guatemala Gold Cup men’s soccer odds and best bet: Take the under in quarterfinal match

Canada vs. Guatemala odds

The Canadian men’s national team won Group B, setting up a quarterfinal match with Guatemala.

The pregame narrative: Canada went 2-0-1 in the group stage, conceding just won goal along the way. Les Rouges have netted nine goals on offence and are heavily favoured to advance past Guatemala at the Gold Cup.

Check out our Canada vs. Guatemala odds and my best bet for the men’s quarterfinal soccer match on June 29.

Best bet

Under 2.5 goals (+100): Although Canada scored nine times in the group stage, six of those goals came against Honduras in the opening match.

Since then, the Canadians have scored three goals in two matches and needed the help of two red cards from El Salvador to win 2-0.

Les Rouges has it in them to score in bunches, but injuries and other absences have left a relatively new group still finding chemistry.

Canada holding another clean sheet will also be important for this pick, but I’m not too worried about that.

The side has done so in three of its past four matches. One of those games was against Ivory Coast, which sits No. 41 in the FIFA Rankings, 64 spots above Guatemala.

You could back Guatemala under 0.5 goals at -106 if you prefer, but I like the plus-money odds with insurance for a 1-1 draw that needs extra time.

The underdog should come out with a nothing-to-lose attitude, so expect a physical match with lots of whistles and a slow pace, similar to the match with El Salvador.

Key stat: Canada and Guatemala have a combined 4-2 record against this wager at the Gold Cup.
