Red Sox vs. Padres SGP predictions Aug. 10: Bet on Boston to win low-scoring game at +360

Red Sox vs. Padres predictions

The Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres play the rubber match of their weekend series on Sunday.

The pregame narrative: Boston dominated the opener, but San Diego struck back with a one-run win. The Red Sox bring a pitching edge with them into today’s matchup, and are my pick to win. Additionally, I’m backing the under on the total after a pair of higher-scoring games.

Check out my Red Sox vs. Padres predictions, including a prop bet on Trevor Story.

Red Sox vs. Padres predictions

Parlay: Red Sox ML | Under 9.5 runs | Story under 1.5 total bases (+360)

Red Sox ML (+118): Brayan Bello has been stellar for the Red Sox, and I expect that to continue on Sunday.

Here’s how he’s performed since the start of July:

  • 5-2 record
  • 2.42 ERA
  • 3.89 FIP

He enters this contest after one of his best outings of the season. Bello ceded zero earned runs across six innings in a winning effort against the Kansas City Royals.

Padres pitcher Dylan Cease hasn’t performed nearly as well. He has a 4.78 ERA and 4.26 FIP since the beginning of July.

Boston also boasts a better offence. The Red Sox are fourth in runs per game (5.01), while the Padres are a lowly 24th (4.13).

MLB SGP legs

Under 9.5 runs (-250): There are several reasons to expect a lower-scoring affair in this one.

Bello’s recent results play largely into this pick. The Red Sox have gone under this total in seven of their last 10 games.

The under on this total has also been a common occurrence when Cease takes the mound. San Diego has gone under this mark in 10 of his last 14 starts.

The Padres have been one of the best under teams this season, sporting the fifth-highest under rate in the MLB (56.6%).

Playing at Petco Park is always a plus for an under, too, as it’s one of the most pitcher-friendly fields per MLB Park Factors.

Story under 1.5 total bases (-245): I’m expecting very little from Story despite backing Boston to win.

The Red Sox shortstop has struggled in San Diego. He has no hits in the series thus far and has failed to beat this prop in three of his last five games.

His head-to-head history against Cease is very troublesome. Story is 1-for-7 against the right-hander with five strikeouts.

Story also has some stark home-road splits, which I’m looking to take advantage of.

He owns a strong .283 batting average at hitter-friendly Fenway Park, but a noticeably worse .229 average on the road.

Cincinnati Open round of 64 picks and predictions Aug. 10: Bet on de Minaur to keep winning

Cincinnati Open predictions

The Cincinnati Open’s round of 64 wraps up with some intriguing matches on Sunday.

The pregame narrative: Alex de Minaur is playing some of the best tennis of his career. He’s a great pick to win convincingly over Reilly Opelka. Elsewhere, Hamad Medjedovic is improving and is my choice to oust Tallon Griekspoor.

Check out my top Cincinnati Open predictions for Aug. 10.

Cincinnati Open predictions

Best Bet: de Minaur -1.5 sets (-120)

There are a number of reasons to like de Minaur in this spot.

Firstly, and most importantly, he is playing some excellent tennis. de Minaur won the Washington Open and advanced to the quarterfinals at the National Bank Open before losing to the eventual tournament winner, Ben Shelton.

The Aussie heads to Cincinnati with an impressive 24-7 record on the hard courts this year.

Secondly, de Minaur has dominated Opelka in their head-to-head clashes.

These two have met five times, and de Minaur has won each matchup. Four of their meetings were on hard courts, including a straight-sets win at the Cincinnati Open.

Opelka hasn’t done much recently to show that he’s a live underdog. He’s a solid yet unspectacular 15-9 on the hard courts this year.

He did upset Tomas Machac at the National Bank Open, but De Minaur’s game appears to be on a different level right now.

Bet on a one-sided victory for de Minaur.

Key stat: de Minaur has won three of his five matches against Opelka in straight sets.

Full tennis betting markets

Griekspoor vs. Medjedovic best bet

Medjedovic to win (-112): These two competitors meet for the first time, and I expect this to be a close match.

There’s a reason why I’m picking Medjedovic to win, though, and it comes down to his recent play.

The Serbian has won three of his last five matches, including one victory already at the Cincinnati Open (vs. Aleksandar Kovacevic).

The victory helped improve his record on the hard courts this year to an impressive 14-4.

Griekspoor, meanwhile, has been struggling ahead of this contest. Since winning the grass tournament at Mallorca, Griekspoor has lost three of his last four matches.

Griekspoor doesn’t have a strong record on the hard courts this year, either, sporting an 11-7 mark on the surface.

Medjedovic is worth backing at plus-money odds.

Blue Jays vs. Dodgers SGP predictions Aug. 9: Back Toronto to cover, fade Ohtani in +460 ticket

Blue Jays vs. Dodgers predictions

The Toronto Blue Jays aim to bounce back after a series-opening loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The pregame narrative: Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw put on a show on Friday night. The two combined for only three earned runs in a 5-1 L.A. win that was closer than the final score suggests. On Saturday, I expect another close contest that features a healthy amount of offence.

Check out my Blue Jays vs. Dodgers same-game parlay predictions for Saturday, Aug. 9, featuring Shohei Ohtani.

Blue Jays vs. Dodgers predictions

Parlay: Blue Jays +1.5 + Over 7.5 runs + Ohtani under 1.5 total bases (+460)

Blue Jays +1.5 (-150): Outside of a brutal appearance from reliever Brendon Little, Toronto was right there with L.A. in the series opener.

The Blue Jays trailed 2-1 after five innings, keeping it close with the loaded Dodgers outside of a brutal seventh inning.

Ultimately, this is a very palatable number to back Toronto at on this market, considering how well the team has played.

The Blue Jays have covered this spread in 15 of their last 21 games. The Dodgers, meanwhile, have only won by two-plus runs in five of their last 12 games.

Blake Snell takes the mound for L.A. in this contest, and he hasn’t been overly sharp this season. In 14.0 innings pitched across three starts, he has a 3.21 ERA, a 4.96 FIP, and a 1.64 WHIP.

MLB SGP legs

Over 7.5 runs (-165): Snell’s first start back since returning from a shoulder injury wasn’t a masterpiece.

He allowed three runs across five innings pitched, with all of the damage coming on a pair of home runs allowed.

Overall, the over on this total has hit in two of his three starts this year.

Toronto counters with Chris Bassitt, who could easily contribute to a higher-scoring affair.

The veteran hurler pairs a 4.12 ERA with a 3.99 FIP, but his season has been a tale of two stories.

LocationERAOPS
Home2.56.678
Away6.45.842

Bassitt has been noticeably worse on the road, which could lead to a larger run total. The over on a 7.5-run total is 6-5 in Bassitt’s 11 starts as a visitor.

Toronto has the highest overs rate in the majors (57.1%).

Embed: #117121

Ohtani under 1.5 (+100): An Ohtani fade in a game where I expect there to be a healthy amount of offence is risky business.

But the two-way star actually hasn’t done so well historically against Bassitt.

Ohtani owns a mortal .231 batting average in 26 at-bats versus Bassitt, striking out 11 times.

Bassitt is also coming off one of his strongest outings of the year. He allowed just one hit and one earned run across six innings against the Kansas City Royals.

Cincinnati Open round of 64 picks and predictions Aug. 9: Fade Tsitsipas, bet on Sabalenka to advance

Cincinnati Open predictions

The Cincinnati Open’s round of 64 gets underway on Saturday with a plethora of intriguing matchups.

The pregame narrative: Aryna Sabalenka plays for the first time since her Wimbledon semifinal loss, and she’s a strong pick to beat Marketa Vondrousova convincingly. Elsewhere, Stefanos Tsitsipas remains a fade candidate against Fabian Marozsan.

Check out my top Cincinnati Open predictions for Aug. 9, including a pick on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs. Joao Fonseca.

Cincinnati Open predictions

Best Bet: Sabalenka -1.5 sets (-108)

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Sabalenka in action.

The top women’s player in the world took some time to recharge after her shocking semifinal loss to Amanda Anisimova at Wimbledon.

Her return is a clear sign that she’s ready to compete again, which is why I’m backing her to win in straight sets.

Sabalenka is on a surface she’s very comfortable playing on. The Belarusian played some of the best tennis of her career on Cincinnati’s hard courts in 2024, winning the tournament without dropping a set.

She joined Vera Zvonareva and Ashleigh Barty as the only women in the Open Era to accomplish the feat.

Sabalenka should also be motivated to find her footing on the hard courts before the U.S. Open. She’s the reigning champ at Flushing Meadows, and she enters the event without a Grand Slam title in 2025.

Vondrousova hasn’t shown much on the hard courts this year. She enters this contest with a 6-5 record on the surface, and she’s a very mediocre 2-2 since Wimbledon.

Back the dominant Sabelanka to win convincingly at Cincinnati.

Key stat: Sabalenka has won each of her last three matches against Vondrousova on the hard courts, winning two via straight sets.

Full tennis betting markets

Cincinnati Open best bet: Tsitsipas vs. Marozsan

Marozsan to win (-120): Does anybody remember the last time Tsitsipas won a tennis match?

The answer to that question is June 24. Since then, he’s lost five consecutive matches and has once again reunited with his father and coach, Apostolos Tsitsipas.

Simply put: Until Tsitsipas shows that he’s returned to form, I’ll continue to bet against him.

He’s going up against a very game competitor in Marozsan. The Hungarian has won three of his last four matches, a stretch that includes a victory over world No. 28 Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Best bet: Davidovich Fokina vs. Fonseca

Fonseca to win (+120): This is a price I can get behind with Fonseca.

The young Brazilian has shown signs that he can join tennis’ elite. He beat Andrey Rublev in straight sets at the Australian Open and then won the Argentina Open the next month.

Since then, there has been some cold water thrown on the Fonseca hype train.

The Brazilian’s game didn’t translate as smoothly as anticipated to the clay and grass courts, going a mediocre 11-8 on those surfaces.

But Fonseca owns an excellent 18-4 record on the hard courts this year.

He’s facing a competitor in Davidovich Fokina who retired at the National Bank Open due to exhaustion.

Davidovich Fokina has played eight matches since July 23, while Fonseca has only played twice. I’m willing to back the younger, more rested player at plus-money odds.

NFL preseason Week 1 odds and betting notes: Bills open up campaign vs. Giants, Bryce Young to play for Panthers

NFL preseason Week 1 odds

The NFL’s Hall of Fame Game is in the books, and preseason Week 1 is on deck.

The latest: The Buffalo Bills’ quest for a Super Bowl starts with a preseason date against the New York Giants. The Carolina Panthers will have some familiar faces in their lineup as they battle the Cleveland Browns, a team undergoing a quarterback competition this summer.

Check out the latest NFL preseason Week 1 schedule and betting notes below.

NFL preseason Week 1 betting notes

  • Indianapolis is undergoing a QB competition this offseason, and it’ll be worth monitoring Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson’s reps versus the Baltimore Ravens. The two are fighting for the starting role to open the season.
  • Cleveland’s QB battle will play out in preseason Week 1, as Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders all compete for the starting job. Pickett and Sanders have missed time in training camp due to injury, so it’s unclear how the reps will be divvied up.
  • Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales is playing his starters through the team’s first two preseason games, including quarterback Bryce Young. Young enters this year firmly entrenched as the starter after throwing seven touchdowns to zero interceptions in his final three games last year.
  • Buffalo’s quest for a Super Bowl begins with a preseason date against the Giants. The Bills will likely rest their starters, but it’ll be worth watching New York in this contest. First-round pick Jaxson Dart will likely play his first NFL snaps in this contest.
  • It’ll be interesting to see if the 2025 first overall pick, Cam Ward, receives any reps for the Tennessee Titans in their preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ward has been receiving plenty of first-team reps for Tennessee in training camp.
  • The New Orleans Saints have a full-fledged QB battle on their hands. Rookie Tyler Shough is competing with Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener for the job. All three will likely receive reps against the Los Angeles Chargers, and it’ll be interesting to see the order in which they enter the game.

Victoria Mboko vs. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro National Bank Open odds and best bet: Pick Canadian to keep rolling in quarterfinal

Mboko vs. Bouzas Maneiro odds

Victoria Mboko is having a breakout run at the 2025 National Bank Open.

The pregame narrative: Mboko is making herself a household name across Canada. She is coming off the biggest win of her career, and I expect her to stay motivated in a quarterfinal matchup against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Check out our Mboko vs. Bouzas Maneiro odds and my best bet for the National Bank Open match on Monday, Aug. 4.

Mboko-334-4.5 (-118)Over 20.5 (-118)
Bouzas Maneiro+240+4.5 (-112)Under 20.5 (-112)

It’s safe to say that Mboko has arrived.

The Canadian, who has played her way into the WTA’s top 100, now has a signature win on her resume.

Mboko took down world No. 2 Coco Gauff in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) to advance to the quarterfinal at the National Bank Open.

Now, she’ll look to continue her run with a victory over Bouzas Maneiro.

Quarterfinal best bet

Best Bet: Mboko -1.5 sets (-134)

Very few tennis pundits were predicting a win for Mboko over Gauff at the National Bank Open.

But absolutely nobody anticipated what we saw.

Mboko dominated the French Open winner, beating her in straight sets en route to the upset win.

What was most impressive from the Canadian was her ability to deliver in the match’s biggest moments.

Mboko converted on four of five break points while saving all five of Gauff’s break opportunities.

Full Mboko vs. Bouzas Maneiro betting markets

It’s extremely encouraging for an 18-year-old tennis player to shine like that against one of the sport’s best players.

Mboko enters this matchup in excellent form, dropping just one set through her first four matches at the tournament.

That has created a pretty significant time on court advantage for Mboko:

  • She has only spent five hours and 51 minutes on court, which is significantly less than her opponent.
  • Bouzas Maneiro has spent nine hours and 13 minutes on court, which is certainly a disadvantage ahead of this matchup.

The Spaniard has needed three sets in three of her four matches, and hasn’t faced a very high level of competition.

Three of her four opponents have been ranked outside the WTA’s top 100 competitors.

Mboko has only faced top 100 players, including three matches versus women ranked inside the top 40.

Bouzas Maneiro relies heavily on her serve, but it has been more harmful than helpful at the National Bank Open.

Bouzas Maneiro has more double faults (33) than aces (23) at this tournament.

Key stat: Mboko has 34 aces and 22 double faults at the National Bank Open, dominating opponents with her serve.

Now, she’ll look to continue her run with a victory over Bouzas Maneiro.

Quarterfinal best bet

Best Bet: Mboko -1.5 sets (-113)

Very few tennis pundits were predicting a win for Mboko over Gauff at the National Bank Open.

But absolutely nobody anticipated what we saw.

Mboko dominated the French Open winner, beating her in straight sets en route to the upset win.

What was most impressive from the Canadian was her ability to deliver in the match’s biggest moments.

Mboko converted on four of five break points while saving all five of Gauff’s break opportunities.
