Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua boxing odds Dec. 19: Paul big underdog in bout with former heavyweight champ

Paul vs. Joshua odds

Jake Paul faces his biggest challenge yet in former heavyweight boxing champ Anthony Joshua.

The latest: Paul went from fighting smaller, older opponents to now taking on a bigger Joshua while he’s still in his prime. The “Problem Child” is +750 to win this bout, while his opponent is a 10-to-1 favourite at the time of writing.

After Gervonta Davis withdrew from this bout, it appears Paul is tired of the doubters. He replaced his lightweight opponent with Joshua, a legit heavyweight stud who has fought the best in the division.

The Englishman’s last win was a knockout over former UFC heavyweight king Francis N’gannou.

He has also fought boxing greats Wladimir Klitschko, Daniel Dubois and Oleksander Usyk twice.

Joshua stands at 6-foot-6 and is a lean 250 pounds. He towers over Paul, who’s 6-foot-1, and is the opposite of the opponents Paul usually challenges.

Jake Paul boxing preview vs. Anthony Joshua

So how does the underdog win this? Well, the odds would suggest he doesn’t stand a chance, and I mostly agree.

However, Paul has legit speed and power and would need to catch Joshua, who’s been knocked out before.

Is it likely? No. Is it possible? Yes.

Paul has been taking boxing seriously for half a decade now, and he should be viewed as a boxer rather than an influencer crossing over into the boxing world.

This will be the “Problem Child’s” 14th professional boxing fight.

In saying that, he’s the less talented, smaller boxer in this contest and deserves his status as a massive underdog on Dec. 19.

NHL parlay picks and predictions Nov. 28: Bet on Chicago and Columbus to win in +375 wager

NHL parlay predictions

After a day off for American Thanksgiving, the NHL returns with a loaded 15-game slate on Friday.

The pregame narrative: In the evening, I like the Chicago Blackhawks to snap their skid against the downtrodden Nashville Predators. Elsewhere, take the Columbus Blue Jackets at home over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Check out the full +375 NHL parlay for Nov. 28, featuring a pick on the Vancouver Canucks vs. San Jose Sharks game.

NHL parlay predictions

Parlay: Blue Jackets ML | Blackhawks ML | Canucks/Sharks over 5.5 goals (+375)

Blue Jackets moneyline (-150): The Penguins have benefited from a lot of home games on their schedule.

They’ve only played three of their 10 November games on the road and are 0-3 in those contests.

Those losses came against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets and Nashville Predators, all teams currently outside the playoff picture.

Columbus is also on the outside looking in, but is just five points back of first in a very competitive Metropolitan Division.

Unlike the Pens, the Blue Jackets have played nine of their 14 games in November on the road. Things haven’t been great, but at home, they are 5-3-2 this season.

When these two played in Pittsburgh on Oct. 26, Columbus came away with a 5-4 victory.

Considering the Jackets have been much better at home, I predict they will take advantage of the Penguins’ road struggles to win again.

-> Bet on Columbus to win vs. Pittsburgh

Other picks

Blackhawks moneyline (-112): This feels like an easy fade against the Predators.

  • Nashville has the fewest points in the NHL with 18 in 23 games.
  • The Preds struggle on the road, holding a 2-5-2 record, which includes losing eight of their last nine.
  • Chicago is fifth in the Central with a 10-8-5 record. The team ranks in the top 12 for scoring on both ends of the ice.

Meanwhile, the Predators score the second-fewest goals per game (2.48) while conceding the third most (3.65).

Those underlying stats show this poor start isn’t a fluke but rather the result of a bad team playing bad hockey.

The Blackhawks have lost four straight, but three of those defeats came by one goal. I expect them to get back in the win column against a team destined to be in the basement of the NHL standings.

NHL over/under pick

Canucks/Sharks over 5.5 goals (-200): Let’s close things out with a fun pick.

Everyone loves scoring and this game has the potential to be a shootout.

The Canucks have no reliable options in net right now with Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen sidelined.

That leaves Jiri Patera and Nikita Tolopilo as options to start on Friday.

  • Patera: 1 GP, 7.37 GAA, .825 SV%
  • Tolopilo: 1 GP, 4.00 GAA, .902 SV%.

Neither guy looks ready to save Vancouver’s woeful defence. The team allows the most goals per game (3.75) on over 30 shots.

Any goalie will have trouble keeping goals out, let alone two guys who have each played a handful of games at the NHL level.

The Sharks have a tough time defending, too. They give up the most shots per game (31.9) and can be susceptible to playing in high-scoring contests.

There should be a lot of chances for both teams, which makes the over on this teased-down total very appealing.

Top European soccer picks and predictions Nov. 30: Expect a dominant performance from Real Madrid

Soccer picks

The top soccer teams in Europe are in action this weekend across various leagues.

The pre-weekend narrative: Real Madrid aims to stay in first place in La Liga and can secure its position for at least another week with a win over Girona. In England, look for Liverpool to bounce back from a bad run of form.

Check out this weekend’s best European soccer picks and predictions for games on Nov. 30, featuring a best bet on Atalanta vs. Fiorentina.

-> Join NorthStar Bets & wager on European soccer

Soccer picks: Nov. 30

Girona vs. Real Madrid (Nov. 30, 3 p.m. ET)

Best bet: Real Madrid halftime/fulltime (+100)

Real Madrid continues to be the gold standard in European soccer. Los Blancos sit atop the table with 32 points in 13 matches.

On the other side, Girona sits 18th in the standings with a -13 goal differential, which is tied for the worst in the league.

This is a David vs. Goliath matchup, so I’m not deterred from backing Madrid on the road.

-> Bet on Real Madrid to win

Just take a look at their advanced stats, per Fotmob, and where they rank in La Liga:

  • 7.28 average match rating (2nd)
  • 2.2 goals per match (2nd)
  • 0.9 goals against per match (3rd)
  • 31.0 expected goals (1st)
  • Six clean sheets (1st)

There is too much working against Girona in this fixture. I expect Real Madrid to grab an early lead and never look back.

Key stat: Los Blancos have the second-highest average goal differential in Spain (+1.3)

EPL prediction

Matchup: West Ham vs. Liverpool (Nov. 30, 9:05 a.m. ET)

Liverpool to win (-132): This is a great spot to buy low on Liverpool.

The Reds have struggled lately, now sitting 12th on the EPL table and most recently losing 4-1 to Dutch side PSV in the Champions League.

Liverpool is on a three-match losing streak, but losses to PSV, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest are all acceptable.

Losing this Sunday would not be. West Ham is in the relegation battle, sitting 17th in the Premier League with 11 points in 12 games.

The London club is one of four EPL teams to hold a -10 goal differential or worse.

Liverpool isn’t likely to win the league or even finish in the top four, but it is far from a bad side, and the Reds should be able to handle one of England’s worst teams.

-> Bet on Sunday’s EPL matches

Serie A best bet

Matchup: Atalanta vs. Fiorentina (Nov. 30, 12:00 p.m. ET)

Atalanta to win (-134): I really like the value on Atalanta at home.

Across all competitions, the side has lost just once at home in eight matches this season. That defeat came against Sassuolo, who are a top-10 team.

Sunday’s opponent, Fiorentina, is in 19th and has yet to win in 12 Serie A matches. It’s quite the drop-off in standard.

To add, the side has conceded the third most xG (18.2), while having the worst average match rating in the Serie A (6.56)

It seems like a no-brainer to back the home side here at a playable price.

Rockets vs. Warriors SGP predictions Nov. 26: Bet on another strong performance form Curry in +340 wager

Rockets vs. Warriors SGP

The Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors meet in a star-studded matchup on Wednesday night.

The pregame narrative: Kevin Durant will miss this game against his old team, but that hardly zaps the starpower split between these two rosters. Steph Curry and Alperen Sengun are two of those talented stars, and they headline my SGP for tonight.

Check out my Rockets vs. Warriors SGP predictions for Nov. 26, featuring Curry, Sengun and Reed Sheppard.

-> Join NorthStar Bets to start betting on the NBA

Rockets vs. Warriors SGP predictions

Parlay: Curry 25+ points | Sengun over 22.5 points | Sheppard 3+ threes (+340)

Curry 25+ points (-167): Curry is aging like fine wine, putting up 28.8 points per game on 39.9% 3-point shooting.

That’s elite efficiency for a guy who leads the NBA with 12.2 three-point attempts a night.

Plus, he’s on an absolute heater ahead of Wednesday’s contest:

  • Since returning to the lineup on Nov. 11, Curry is averaging 31.1 points and is 5-2 against this line.
  • During that time, he had two 40-point performances.

-> Build your own NBA SGP at NorthStar Bets

The volume is also encouraging as he took 20.7 shots and 13.3 threes per game over that stretch.

If he’s going to continue shooting close to 50% from the field and 40% from 3, this first leg should be stress-free.

Embed: #121600

NBA SGP legs

Sengun over 22.5 points (-134): The Warriors are an above-average defensive team, but they lack the size down low to contain elite bigs.

In fact, they allow the fifth most points per game to opposing centres (24.49), per Fantasy Pros.

Draymond Green is aging while being undersized, and centres Quentin Post and Trayce Jackson-Davis aren’t yet ready to provide big minutes.

That brings me to Sengun, who is emerging as one of the most talented bigs in the NBA.

He’s scoring 22.4 points per game on a blistering 44.2% from 3.

The other positive is that he’s played 30+ minutes in all but one game this season. This should be another close game, meaning lots of time and opportunity for Sengun.

In the past eight games, he’s 5-3 against this line.

-> Back Curry and Sengun on Wednesday night

Sheppard 3+ threes (-190): Following a disappointing rookie season, Sheppard has improved a lot in Year 2, allowing him to become a staple on a championship contender.

The sophomore plays 24.1 minutes per game and is a sharpshooter. He takes 5.8 threes per night and hits them at a 47.1% clip.

So when the volume’s there, there’s a good chance he’s nailing a handful of 3-pointers.

With Durant sidelined tonight, more looks will open up for Sheppard, and that potential increase in volume has me confident he can knock down a few from beyond the arc.

NHL anytime goal picks Nov. 26: Expect big games from Nathan MacKinnon, Cutter Gauthier

NHL goal picks Nov. 26

Nathan MacKinnon is on a tear, and he headlines my NHL goal picks for Wednesday.

NHL goal picks Nov. 26

Best Bet: MacKinnon to score (-143)

To make it clear, MacKinnon is the only player I’d back to score at this price right now and let me explain why:

  • He’s off to a historic start to the season. He has 17 goals and 37 points in 22 games.
  • That is a 63-goal and 138-point pace.
  • Mackinnon also ranks third in the NHL with 94 shots on net (4.3 per game).

This is nothing new for him, either. He has a 140-point season under his belt, so he’s proven this pace is sustainable.

-> Bet on MacKinnon and the Avalanche tonight!

It also helps that the Avs are pretty much unbeatable right now. They’ve lost one game in regulation and average 3.51 expected goals per 60 minutes.

I feel pretty good backing this offence in any matchup.

But I’ll still pick on the San Jose Sharks a bit. This team has played above expectations this season, but still gives up 31.4 shots per game (third-most).

The underlying stats are worrying for the Sharks’ long-term outlook, and I expect MacKinnon to lead Colorado to a high-scoring win.

Key stat: MacKinnon scored in the Avs’ first meeting with San Jose this season.

NHL predictions

Gauthier to score (+140): Gauthier is part of a long list of names tied for seventh in the NHL with 13 goals.

The former third overall pick is living up to the hype, adding 13 assists and a +13 rating. Those stats don’t matter much for this pick, but showcase the complete player Guathier has become so quickly.

Anaheim is stacked with young talent, and he’s part of a top line that features three budding forwards who are all 21 years old or younger.

-> Wager on Gauthier at NorthStar Bets

The best part about this wager is fading the Vancouver Canucks. They allow the most goals against per game (3.74) and don’t have a viable option in net with Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen sidelined.

Jiri Patera is expected to start after being recalled from the AHL. In his one game with the Canucks this season, he gave up seven goals on 40 shots.

A shot total like that is possible again tonight with Vancouver allowing over 30 per game.

If that’s the case, expect Gauthier to be busy, leading to many opportunities to score.

He ranks second in the NHL with 97 shots this season.

Pacers vs. Raptors prop picks Nov. 26: Expect Scottie Barnes to fill the stat sheet

Pacers vs. Raptors prop picks

The Toronto Raptors aim for a ninth straight win when they play the struggling Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

The latest: Toronto sits second in the Eastern Conference with a 13-5 record to this point. Indiana is on the opposite end, starting with a 2-15 record after making the NBA Finals last season. The Raptors are 10.5-point favourites to extend their win streak at home.

Pacers vs. Raptors prop picks

Best bet: Poeltl over 12.5 points (-106)

Poeltl isn’t the first, second or even third option for Toronto, but he has shown the ability to clear this point total consistently.

He’s gone under in two straight but shot a combined 4-for-5 in those two games. So, it wasn’t an efficiency issue but rather a lack of volume.

Before that, he scored at least 12 points in six straight games.

The big man shoots an incredible 73.8% from the field, which is a big reason why he’s able to rack up points without many looks.

-> Full Pacers vs. Raptors props at NorthStar Bets

On top of that, he has a great matchup to do damage on Wednesday.

  • The Pacers allow the sixth most points per game to centres (24.42), per Fantasy Pros.
  • Poeltl torched them last time out. On Nov. 15, he had 22 points in 25 minutes while missing only one shot.

He missed eight free throws in that contest, so he left a ton of production on the table.

Indiana lacks a true centre, and given the opportunity, Poeltl should smash this total.

Key stat: Poeltl is 5-1 against this wager vs. Indiana since the start of 2024.

-> Wager on Monday’s nine-game NBA slate

Additional NBA prop predictions

Barnes over 7.5 rebounds (-130): Indiana is not a good team on the glass, ranking in the bottom eight in rebounding rate (48.5%). It also gives up the second most rebounds per game (59.1).

That’s where I expect Barnes to shine. He is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game with eight double-doubles this season.

-> Bet on Barnes and Poeltl here!

When the Raptors played the Pacers earlier this month, Barnes scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

He ranks second on the Raptors behind Poeltl with 12.1 rebound chances per game. No one else on Toronto averages more than 10.

I expect him to have another strong performance on the glass against a Pacers team that lacks size in the frontcourt.

Barnes double-double (+160): The versatile forward has scored 10+ points in every game but one this season, so that part of this wager doesn’t worry me.

Additionally, Indiana is not a good team on the glass, ranking in the bottom eight in rebounding rate (48.5%). It also gives up the second most rebounds per game (59.1).
