How to understand and place a moneyline bet

moneyline bet explainer

What’s a moneyline bet? If you’re new to betting and have ever wondered what that term means, we have you covered in this moneyline bet explainer.

A moneyline bet involves picking the outright winner of a game. You are simply picking which team you think will win straight up. If the side you choose wins, you win the bet.

Betting on the moneyline is one of the most common ways to wager on sports and is also the most straightforward. We’ll take a look below at different moneyline (ML for short) examples for Big Four sports games.

Moneyline bet explainer

Each team is assigned its own odds before a contest begins. One team is deemed the favourite while the other is the underdog. The favourite will have a minus sign (-) before its odds and the underdog will be denoted with a plus sign (+).

These odds are linked to the implied probability of each team winning. So you will sometimes see odds that are similar and others where there’s a large discrepancy. Reasons for a massive difference in odds include talent level, team success, and the health of a roster.

If all teams were given the same odds, it would make little sense to pick a last-place team over a conference leader.

What the odds also tell you is the amount you would win depending on how much you wagered. Let’s take a look at some examples.

OddsWagerWinImplied Probability
-250$250$10071.43%
-110$110$10052.38%
+175$100$17536.36%
+300$100$30025.00%

Moneyline bet examples

Now that you understand how odds are linked to payouts and a team’s implied probability of winning a certain matchup, let’s examine some hypothetical moneyline bets for Ontario’s most popular teams.

MatchupAway oddsHome odds
Tigers at Blue Jays+120-135
Panthers at Bills+490-675
Ducks at Leafs+260-310
Celtics at Raptors-560+425

Moneyline odds are presented the same way across the Big Four sports. The only difference in these examples is the odds discrepancy which, again, reflects the quality of opponents facing off.

The odds will be similar in a matchup between two evenly matched teams (like the Tigers/Blue Jays example) while the odds will be nowhere near the same when one team is significantly better than the other (like the Panthers/Bills matchup). The same goes for that Leafs and Ducks game.

Unless Toronto was missing a number of significant pieces from its roster (say Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner), you can expect it to be a large favourite every time it faces a team on Anaheim’s level.

To recap what we illustrated above: In order to win $100 on the Bills moneyline, you would need to wager $675. You would win $490 on a $100 wager if you elected to pick the Panthers on the ML and they won.

Moneyline betting tips

Because you would have to risk a lot for a small reward in that Bills scenario, blindly picking the favourite and backing Buffalo on the ML wouldn’t be the recommended play here unless it was part of a parlay.

You could, however, pick the Bills to win by a certain amount of points and back them on the point spread. You would get a better return on your investment if they were able to do so.

Underdogs win games every night, so picking the team that isn’t favoured to win has the potential to generate a large return on investment. But remember: they are underdogs for a reason.

moneyline betting explainer
The Bills might not be the best moneyline pick if they’re hefty favourites Photo by Steve Luciano/AP.

Just like we wouldn’t recommend betting on the favourite every time, we also wouldn’t recommend picking underdogs simply because you have the potential to earn more money.

Research, following trends, and how specific teams match up against each other are important when determining who to bet on. Sometimes, it may all point to backing the underdog.

Paying attention to the health of a roster is especially important when making bets because a key player being out can drastically swing the lines.

NFL Week 2 betting guide: Staff recommendations for the second weekend of the football season

NFL Week 1 betting guide

Who’s ready for another NFL Sunday?

The Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers meet for a divisional-round rematch before the Cincinnati Bengals try to right the ship against the Kansas City Chiefs. Two notable young quarterbacks — C.J. Stroud and Caleb Williams — close things out on Sunday Night Football.

NFL Week 2 betting guide

The Buffalo Bills kicked off the festivities with a blowout win over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football and the odds would indicate more routs are to come.

Some quick betting notes before we dive into everything you could possibly want to bet on in Week 2:

  • Highest total: Buccaneers/Lions (51 points)
  • Biggest spread: Ravens -8.5 vs. Raiders
  • Eight teams have odds of +200 or longer to win (Raiders, Panthers, Saints, Vikings, Buccaneers, Bengals, Bears, Falcons)

Those lines/odds are listed as of 2:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 13. For the latest, check out our NFL Week 2 markets.

Week 2 betting predictions

If you need a one-stop shop for spread bets, we have you covered.

Our NFL Week 2 ATS picks, via Avery Perri, Jordan Horrobin, Spencer Closs and Chris Toman, provide a recommendation against the spread for every game.

We have plenty of other picks, too.

Week 2 best bets: Perri has one ATS pick, one moneyline wager and one over/under to bet on for Sunday’s slate. His favourite pick is on the Los Angeles Rams to continue dominating the Arizona Cardinals.

Underdogs: The biggest favourite in Week 1 (Bengals) lost and there are plenty of sizeable dogs to back this weekend. Horrobin thinks a strong run game can help a certain NFC North team pull off an upset without its star QB.

Parlay picks: Closs has dialled up a three-leg parlay (+468) headlined by the Pittsburgh Steelers getting it done on the road.

Prop picks: Will the Baltimore Ravens commit to the run game this week? They probably should, and Derrick Henry is one of four players highlighted in this article.

TD picks: Cooper Kupp turned back the clock for an elite performance in Week 1 and Perri thinks he’ll find the end zone again. Read about why in addition to a pair of plus-money wagers.

Bengals vs. Chiefs same-game parlay: Joe Burrow’s Bengals have always started slow and now they have to take on the defending champs at Arrowhead. Bet on KC alongside Travis Kelce and Zack Moss in this +425 SGP.

Bears vs. Texans SNF best bets: Look away, Carolina Panthers fans, it’s time for the C.J. Stroud show. Horrobin is backing the star quarterback to have himself a night in prime time.

Bills vs. Dolphins (Thursday, Sept. 12: 8:20 p.m.)

Embed: #94298

NorthStar Bets line: Miami -2.5
Toman says: Buffalo has dominated this matchup recently, winning four of the last five meetings. A bunch of those games have been shootouts but I don’t think Josh Allen has the weapons to keep up on Thursday. Allen willed the Bills to victory in Week 1 after a dreadful first half. Miami simply has more talent in the air and on the ground, and covered this number in six of their seven home wins last season.
Pick: Dolphins -2.5

NFL Week 2 ATS picks: The Sunday slate

Saints vs. Cowboys (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94299

NorthStar Bets line: Dallas -6
Horrobin says: Both teams won by multiple touchdowns in Week 1, but the Cowboys had a much higher degree of difficulty (at Browns) than the Saints (vs. Panthers). Dallas was a wrecking ball at home last year, going 8-1 with a +17.3 average point differential. I’d rather bet on that trend than on Derek Carr.
Pick: Cowboys -6

Raiders vs. Ravens (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94300

NorthStar Bets line: Baltimore -8.5
Perri says: My prediction for this game: Baltimore dominates the trenches and makes Gardner Minshew’s life miserable. The Chargers rushed for 176 yards at 6.5 per carry against the Raiders in Week 1. Derrick Henry will feast and Baltimore’s defence should look better in its second game with a new coordinator.
Pick: Ravens -8.5

Giants vs. Commanders (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94301

NorthStar Bets line: Washington -1.5
Closs says: In Danny Dimes, we do not trust. New York’s QB completed 22-of-42 passes for 186 yards against the Vikings last week. The result was no TDs, two INTs and six points scored by the Giants’ offence. Jayden Daniels completed 17-of-24 of his passes and added 88 yards rushing in his NFL debut for Washington. He already looks more reliable than his counterpart just one game into his career.
Pick: Commanders -1.5

Chargers vs. Panthers (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94302

NorthStar Bets line: Los Angeles -6
Horrobin says: The Chargers passed their first test of the Jim Harbaugh era, winning 22-10 as 3-point favourites last week over the Raiders. Now they’ll face the Panthers, who lost by 37 last week and have averaged 12.2 points/game in Bryce Young’s career. Who’s got it better than the Bolts? Nobody!
Pick: Chargers -6

Colts vs. Packers (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94303

NorthStar Bets line: Indianapolis -3
Horrobin says: Backing Malik Willis isn’t for the faint of heart, but this pick is more about Green Bay’s run game. Why can’t the Packers replicate the rushing success that Indy allowed to the Texans last week (213 yards on 40 carries)? Green Bay is 5-1 straight up as a home underdog since 2021, so I’ll take the field goal’s worth of cushion.
Pick: Packers +3

49ers vs. Vikings (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94304

NorthStar Bets line: San Francisco -5
Perri says: No Christian McCaffrey, no problem. The Niners routed the Jets on Sunday Night Football behind a big Jordan Mason performance and I think the offence will be even better now that Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams have reps. Sam Darnold had a strong first game with the Vikings but was playing the bottom-feeding Giants. San Francisco’s defence will have him seeing ghosts.
Pick: 49ers -5

Browns vs. Jaguars (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94305

NorthStar Bets line: Jacksonville -3
Perri says: It’s safe to say the Browns are absolutely screwed with Deshaun Watson under centre. The quarterback completed just 24-of-45 attempts (53.3%) for 169 yards while throwing two interceptions, ranking last in EPA per play among all quarterbacks. I can’t trust him to do anything especially with David Njoku out and three starting offensive linemen questionable.
Pick: Jaguars -3

Seahawks vs. Patriots (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94306

NorthStar Bets line: Seattle -3.5
Toman says: The Patriots were the biggest Week 1 underdog and walked away with a win. But I’m not buying their victory over the Bengals, who went into Week 1 a total mess. The Seahawks weren’t incredible but they won by six and have another soft spot. They got big production from RB Kenneth Walker, and the rushing game was not something New England had to contend with versus Cincinnati.
Pick: Seahawks -3.5

Jets vs. Titans (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94307

NorthStar Bets line: New York -3.5
Closs says: Aaron Rodgers looked good in his return but the Jets were in over their head against the 49ers on the road. A Week 2 game against the Titans looks a lot more winnable. Tennessee blew a 17-0 lead to the Bears in Week 1 and ended up losing 24-17. Will Levis turned the ball over three times and I expect the Jets’ defence to have a field day with the young QB.
Pick: Jets -3.5

Buccaneers vs. Lions (Sunday, Sept. 15: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #94308

NorthStar Bets line: Detroit -7.5
Closs says: The Lions were fortunate enough to win the toss and score on their first drive in overtime to beat the Rams in Week 1. Baker Mayfield led the Bucs to a 37-20 win over the Commanders with four touchdown passes and 289 yards passing. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are still two of the better pass catchers in the league and I think Tampa Bay’s offence is good enough to keep pace with the Lions in Detroit.
Pick: Buccanneers +7.5

Make your NFL Week 2 predictions

NFL 4 p.m. slate

Rams vs. Cardinals (Sunday, Sept. 15: 4.05 p.m.)

Embed: #94309

NorthStar Bets line: Arizona -1
Perri says: The Rams were a coin toss away from potentially defeating the Lions in overtime last week. I’ll back them as a road dog against the Cardinals even without Puka Nacua. Arizona’s defence was awful last year and didn’t look much better in Week 1, ranking 31st in defensive EPA per play. Sean McVay is also 13-3 against the Cards since taking over as head coach in 2017.
Pick: Rams +1

Bengals vs. Chiefs (Sunday, Sept. 15: 4.25 p.m.)

Embed: #94310

NorthStar Bets line: Kansas City -5
Perri says: Starting seasons slow is officially a massive problem for Joe Burrow. The No. 1 pick is now 0-3 in his last five Week 1 games and has never won in Week 2. I have a hard time believing his wrist is at 100% and am fading until proven otherwise. Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes looked like the defending champs and should roll.
Pick: Chiefs -5

Steelers vs. Broncos (Sunday, Sept. 15: 4.25 p.m.)

Embed: #94311

NorthStar Bets line: Pittsburgh -2
Closs says: The Broncos scored 20 points in Week 1 but there’s more to the story. Denver scored four points off of safeties and Bo Nix scored a rushing touchdown in garbage time making it a one-possession game. Seattle’s defence picked off Nix twice and I think the Steelers’ defence is one of the best in the league.
Pick: Steelers -2

Sunday and Monday night ATS picks

Bears vs. Texans (Sunday, Sept. 15: 8:20 p.m.)

Embed: #94312

NorthStar Bets line: Houston -6
Horrobin says: Caleb Williams’ defence bailed him out in his debut, but I doubt that storyline will repeat itself in Houston. C.J. Stroud threw for 310.8 pass yards/game at home last year, and the Texans went 6-2 in those games. I think Houston winning by a TD margin is more than reasonable against a quarterback who’s still finding his footing.
Pick: Texans -6

Falcons vs. Eagles (Monday, Sept. 16: 8:15 p.m.)

Embed: #94313

NorthStar Bets line: Philadelphia -6.5
Horrobin says: Atlanta didn’t allow a touchdown last week, but it still lost by eight. At home. Good luck turning that around on the road against a Philadelphia squad with two extra days of rest and an impressive victory (vs. Green Bay) under its belt. The Eagles are 11-7-1 ATS at home since 2022.
Pick: Eagles -6.5

Staff Week 1 records: Spencer: 8-6-2 | Horrobin: 7-7-2 | Perri: 7-7-2 | Psihogios: 6-8-2 | Toman: 6-8-2

Ravens vs. Chiefs (Thursday, Sept. 5: 8:20 p.m.)

Embed: #93631

NorthStar Bets line: Kansas City -2.5
Horrobin says: Betting against the two-time reigning champs? Let’s do it. Baltimore was 5-2 ATS on the road last season, and all five of its regular season/playoff losses came in one-score games. I’m excited to see what Derrick Henry opens up for the Ravens’ offensive scheme.
Pick: Ravens +2.5

Packers vs. Eagles (Friday, Sept. 6: 8:15 p.m.)

Embed: #93632

NorthStar Bets line: Philadelphia -2
Horrobin says: Green Bay finished 2023 on the rise, winning six of its final eight games (plus a playoff game). The Packers went 6-6 SU as underdogs last year and look like a bargain with points against Philly’s questionable secondary. Remember, Green Bay is the “road” team … but this is a neutral site game in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Pick: Packers +2

NFL Week 1 ATS picks: The Sunday slate

Cardinals vs. Bills (Sunday, Sept. 8: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #93634

NorthStar Bets line: Bills -6.5
Horrobin says: It’s still warm in Buffalo, so I don’t think the Bills’ home-field advantage will have as much bite as it would if this game was played in December. And there’s newfound hope for the Cardinals’ offence after Trey McBride’s sophomore surge and the addition of Marvin Harrison Jr. The Bills were only 5-5 ATS at home last year.
Pick: Cardinals +6.5

Panthers vs. Saints (Sunday, Sept. 8: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #93633

NorthStar Bets line: New Orleans -4
Closs says: Derek Carr finished with 25 passing touchdowns and eight interceptions a year ago. That led the Saints to a 9-8 record. Carolina fared much worse, finishing 2-15 and 0-9 on the road. The limited offseason improvements due to trading the 2024 first overall pick give me little hope in the Panthers showing anything new in Week 1.
Pick: Saints -4

Texans vs. Colts (Sunday, Sept. 8: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #93635

NorthStar Bets line: Houston -3
Horrobin says: If you believe in C.J. Stroud, this should be a justifiable spot to ride with the Texans. Houston has as enviable of a receiving corps as anyone in the NFL, along with the reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in Will Anderson. Last year, Stroud and the Texans earned a four-point road win over Indy in Week 18 to secure a playoff spot.
Pick: Texans -3

Jaguars vs. Dolphins (Sunday, Sept. 8: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #93637

NorthStar Bets line: Miami -3
Closs says: The Dolphins thrived when playing at home last season. They went 7-2 and I expect the same success this year. Jacksonville remains mostly intact besides replacing Calvin Ridley with first-round pick Brian Thomas Jr. Miami loves playing in the heat which resulted in a 9-3 start last season.
Pick: Dolphins -3

Vikings vs. Giants (Sunday, Sept. 8: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #93638

NorthStar Bets line: Vikings -1.5
Closs says: The Vikings lost Kirk Cousins in the offseason and 10th overall pick J.J. McCarthy to a season-ending injury. That leaves Sam Darnold and I’m unsurprisingly expecting a drop-off for the Vikings’ offence. I believe the Giants are the better team on both sides of the ball and they are playing at home.
Pick: Giants +1.5

Patriots vs. Bengals (Sunday, Sept. 8: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #93636

NorthStar Bets line: Cincinnati -8
Horrobin says: Ja’Marr Chase was back at practice on Wednesday and I’m expecting (read: hoping) he suits up on Sunday. Either way, this should be a soft landing for the Bengals against a Jacoby Brissett-led Patriots team with a projected win total of 4.5. New England went 4-7-1 ATS as an underdog last year.
Pick: Bengals -8

Steelers vs. Falcons (Sunday, Sept. 8: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #93639

NorthStar Bets line: Atlanta -3.5
Perri says: Mike Tomlin as a road underdog? Yes, please. The Steelers are 39-28-2 ATS in those scenarios since Tomlin took over as head coach (3-3 last season). Pittsburgh and Atlanta both have new quarterbacks under centre but I’ll side with Russell Wilson… in this game at least. Kirk Cousins is coming off a torn Achilles, got zero preseason snaps, and has to deal with a rabid defence.
Pick: Steelers +3.5

Titans vs. Bears (Sunday, Sept. 8: 1:00 p.m.)

Embed: #93641

NorthStar Bets line: Chicago -4
Perri says: I’m going to pump the brakes on the Bears’ hype train. Chicago has its supposed franchise quarterback and a deadly receiving corps but Tennessee is building something up, too. Will Levis has shown flashes of being a gunslinger and Ridley was brought in alongside Tyler Boyd to give the offence more pop. All the pressure is on Chicago and I’ll back Tennessee in a close game.
Pick: Titans +4

Make your NFL Week 1 predictions

NFL 4 p.m. slate

Broncos vs. Seahawks (Sunday, Sept. 8: 4:05 p.m.)

Embed: #93640

NorthStar Bets line: Seattle -6
Closs says: Another team that is completely redesigned on offence is the Broncos. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix looked promising in the preseason but the expectation to replace Wilson is a big one. Denver’s bad defence allowed the sixth-most points per game (24.3) and the Seahawks still have a potent offence with various threats.
Pick: Seahawks -6

Raiders vs. Chargers (Sunday, Sept. 8: 4.05 p.m.)

Embed: #93642

NorthStar Bets line: Los Angeles -3
Perri says: I say the Jim Harbaugh era begins in Los Angeles with a loss. Justin Herbert isn’t at 100% and the Raiders have put together plenty of solid results under Antonio Pierce. Las Vegas is 5-4 since he took over as head coach, going 5-2-2 against this line in those games. That includes a 63-21 victory over Los Angeles.
Pick: Raiders +3

Cowboys vs. Browns (Sunday, Sept. 8: 4.25 p.m.)

Embed: #93643

NorthStar Bets line: Cleveland -3
Perri says: I love the under in this game but am leaning with the Browns to cover. The Cowboys didn’t travel well last year and averaged 13.5 fewer points away from AT&T Stadium (23.3) than at home (36.8). Dallas was 0-4 ATS as a road underdog while Cleveland was a league-best 6-0 ATS as a home favourite.
Pick: Browns -3

Commanders vs. Buccaneers (Sunday, Sept. 8: 4.25 p.m.)

Embed: #93644

NorthStar Bets line: Tampa Bay -3.5
Perri says: I expect Jayden Daniels to have a rough debut. The No. 2 overall pick will be tasked with beating a solid defence on the road. Since 1970, rookie QBs are 12-13-2 ATS on the road in Week 1 and 8-19 straight up. Baker Mayfield and Co. found something toward the end of last season, winning five of their final six contests and a wild-card game. The Bucs should pick up where they left off.
Pick: Buccaneers -3.5

Sunday and Monday night ATS picks

Rams vs. Lions (Sunday, Sept. 8: 8:20 p.m.)

Embed: #93645

NorthStar Bets line: Detroit -3.5
Toman says: The Rams surprised last year, starting the season with a double-digit win as an underdog en route to a 10-7 record, good for a playoff berth (and a one-point loss to these Lions). Detroit was the only NFC team with a better ATS record. Los Angeles was 7-1 following the bye with its only loss coming in OT. Sean McVay teams are tough and the half-point hook on the spread makes this number appealing.
Pick: Rams +3.5

Jets vs. 49ers (Monday, Sept. 9: 8:15 p.m.)

Embed: #93646

NorthStar Bets line: San Francisco -4.5
Toman says: Aaron Rodgers’ Jets are getting plenty of hype ahead of what will be the QB’s first real season in New York. This is a loaded team on paper but Rodgers is 40 and the Jets have some real questions at receiver. San Francisco was the Super Bowl favourite for the majority of last season and is favoured to win the NFC yet again. The 49ers won five home games by double-digit points last season.
Pick: 49ers -4.5

Copa America 2024 FAQ: Dates, Canada’s schedule, favourites to win, and more

Copa America FAQ

Copa America 2024 is right around the corner.

Canada is playing in the tournament for the first time in its history, while Argentina is defending its title. You might have some questions about how the tournament works, what the betting odds are, or how it is formatted.

Here is our Copa America FAQ, which aims to answer 10 commonly asked questions about the event.

Copa America 2024 FAQ

Q: When are the dates for Copa America 2024?
A: The tournament begins June 20 when Canada plays defending champion Argentina at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The final will be played July 14 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Q: Where will Copa America 2024 take place?
A: The United States will host the tournament for the second time, having hosted the 100th edition of the event in 2016. There are 14 different venues spanning from New York to California.

Q: What teams are in Copa America 2024?
A: Sixteen teams are participating in Copa America — 10 from CONMEBOL and six from CONCACAF. Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela represent CONMEBOL. Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica represent CONCACAF.

Looking to bet on Copa America? Sign up here.

Q: What is the tournament format for Copa America 2024?
A: The 16 teams are separated into four groups of four. Each team plays each of its group-stage counterparts once in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage. Teams are eliminated after each game from there until a winner is decided. There is also a third-place play-off for the losers of the semi-finals.

Q: How does the group stage point system work?
A: A win is worth three points, a draw is one point, and a loss is zero points. The top two teams on points advance. If there is a tie, the tiebreak is sorted by goal-differential with the next tiebreaker being goals scored. If these two are equal, head-to-head results are used to break the tie.

Q: Who are the favourites to win Copa America 2024?
A: As of May 23, Argentina is +175 to defend its title. Brazil is next on the list at +225 while Uruguay sits at +500. USA holds the shortest odds of all CONCACAF teams +1,200.

Q: What are Canada’s odds in Copa America 2024?
A: Canada is a +6,600 long shot to win the tournament and +1,400 to win its group. The team is +225 to advance to the knockout stage. This is the first time the CANMNT have participated in the Copa America. They failed to advance out of the World Cup group stage in 2022.

Want to bet on Canada at Copa America? Sign up here.

Q: Who is in Canada’s group and when does it play?
A: Canada is in Group A alongside Argentina, Peru, and Chile. Argentina tops FIFA’s ranking while Peru sits 32nd and Chile 42nd. Canada is ranked 49th as of May 23. Canada plays Argentina on June 20, Peru on June 25, and Chile on June 29.

Embed: #84000

Q: Who are Canada’s top players and who is the new head coach?
A: Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David and Cyle Larin are Canada’s “Big 3.” They each rank in the top four in international appearances and goals. Jesse Marsch was appointed manager on May 13 following John Herdman’s departure. Marsch previously coached Leeds United and is the first American to coach Canada.

Q: What other teams and players are there to watch?
A: Argentina is loaded with top-end talents such as Lionel Messi, Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez. Brazil is perhaps the most talented team, even with Neymar injured. Raphinha, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and Endrick form an electric offence. Brazil’s first game is on June 24 versus Costa Rica. The United States also has a bevy of young talents including Weston McKennie, Sergino Dest and Christian Pulisic.

NorthStar Gaming’s editorial Insiders have no influence, direct or otherwise, over the setting of odds advertised on our platforms.

ACCURACY AND CORRECTIONS

There can be no compromise with accuracy. It is the responsibility of everyone in the organization. We must make every effort to ensure the information we publish, including information from all other publications, is accurate.

Mistakes will happen. When they do, we will promptly correct our errors. Our corrections are guided by the core principles of accountability and transparency. We are accountable to our readers for the accuracy of the information we publish in stories, headlines, photos, cutlines, social media, graphics, data, videos, and any other content on all of our platforms.

We will correct errors of fact in a clear, transparent manner on the platform(s) in which the error was published, as promptly as possible. We will make clear to readers the correct information and the context and magnitude of the mistake. Published corrections do not ascribe blame within our organization.

ANONYMITY AND CONFIDENTIAL SOURCES

We should be aggressive in pressing sources in reported pieces to put information on the record and should seek independently to corroborate off-the-record information.

There are times when reporters need confidential sources to serve readers. NorthStar Gaming reporters and any content creator must discuss using confidential sources with their manager, and in some cases, the organization’s most senior editorial leader. They must always reveal the source’s identity to editors and provide a compelling argument for why the source will not be named.

Senior editorial leaders have a responsibility to work with reporters and content creators to assess the credibility of all sources including confidential sources.

Once any promise is made to grant anonymity, we protect our source, only revealing their identity with that person’s permission. Confidential sources should have first-hand knowledge of the information and this must be conveyed to the reader. We should publish as much information as possible about the source — including why they sought confidentiality — without revealing their identity.

The definitions and ground rules for not naming a source must be discussed with sources.

ATTRIBUTION AND PLAGIARISM

We do not present other media’s reporting as our own or publish unattributed material from other sources. Plagiarism — the unattributed use of words or ideas from another published source — is grounds for discipline or dismissal.

We attribute and credit material to its source, including reporting obtained exclusively by other media organizations on any platform. If an article contains a significant amount of wire copy, then the agency and/or author should be credited.

Any information from social media and other digital sources such as Facebook, Twitter, or personal or corporate websites, must be verified to establish the bona fides of the sources, who should be properly credited for the information.

DIVERSITY

NorthStar Gaming aims to have its content and content creators reflect the diversity of our audience. We aim for a variety of voices as contributors across platforms.

We treat men and women equally and respect diverse gender identities, including people who identify as neither male nor female.

SOCIAL MEDIA

NorthStar Gaming’s staff and content creators are always representatives of NorthStar Bets.

Our content creators are encouraged to be themselves and find their own voices on social media, but it’s important to remember that the content they post and the way they conduct themselves can have an impact on reader trust, our brand and the company’s public standing. This is true regardless of the privacy settings on a journalist’s account, their profile description, or whether they consider an account personal.

• NorthStar Gaming staff and content creators must not use social media to criticize or undermine the company, their colleagues, or the work of their colleagues.

• NorthStar Gaming staff and content creators are encouraged to listen and interact respectfully with readers who engage them in productive ways.

• NorthStar Gaming staff and content creators are encouraged to block or mute someone who is making threatening, abusive, or harassing comments. It is never appropriate to threaten someone or direct profanity at them.

•  NorthStar Gaming staff and content creators who feel threatened by someone on social media should inform their supervisor immediately.

OUTSIDE WORK BY STAFFERS

NorthStar Gaming content creators are generally free to appear on radio and television, provided this is done on the employee’s own time and as long as any full-time or contract employees of NorthStar Gaming are identified as employees of the company. The department head must also be notified in advance, and NorthStar Gaming reserves the right to veto such appearances.
