This year’s star-studded Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, featuring elite quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts, is ripe for SGP predictions.

The pregame narrative: Kansas City, an NFL-best 15-2 in the regular season, is going for its third consecutive title in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII. Philadelphia has won 15 of its last 16 games and is an underdog for the first time since Week 13.

The last game of the NFL season is coming and SGPs will certainly be a popular wagering option among football bettors.

Same-game parlays can be the ultimate risk/reward scenario. They are more difficult wagers to win, especially with more legs added to them, but they have great appeal based on the payout potential.

Super Bowl SGP picks

Steven Psihogios: This is an Eagles-centric SGP. Psihogios likes the slight underdogs to win and expects the team’s big dogs to help make that happen. In addition to Philadelphia on the moneyline, Psihogios has prop picks on Hurts and Saquon Barkley, leading to a +320 ticket. This recommendation cashed in both of the Eagles’ last two playoff wins.

Avery Perri: Perri is also on the Birds, but he’s buying a bunch of points just to be safe. He expects Hurts and A.J. Brown to lead the way in this +375 ticket while also backing Mahomes to clear a teased-down rushing total.

Spencer Closs: Prop picks on Eagles receivers DeVonta Smith and Jahan Dotson make up two legs of this +340 SGP. The other play is the under on an alternative total in a Super Bowl matchup that features two of the NFL’s top defensive teams.

Jordan Horrobin: There’s been plenty of brotherly love for Philly so far, but this ticket is a little more KC-friendly. The +420 SGP features four player props, including yardage milestones for Xavier Worthy and Kareem Hunt.

Chris Toman: Go big or go home. Toman expects Philly to end Kansas City’s three-peat bid on Sunday. He’s also taking the under on an alternate spread alongside prop bets on Hurts and Mahomes. The result? A +1,000 SGP.

The biggest and final game of the NFL season is upon us.

The pregame narrative: By the end of Sunday night, the Kansas City Chiefs will either be celebrating a three-peat or the Philadelphia Eagles will have exacted revenge for Super Bowl 57.

Super Bowl ATS picks: Chiefs vs. Eagles predictions

Perri (Eagles +1): Betting against the Chiefs in the playoffs is scary business, but I think the Eagles have what it takes to win — and potentially by a good margin.

Philadelphia has the best roster in football. It leads Kansas City in the following categories: Offensive and defensive EPA per play, scoring offence and scoring defence, turnover margin, ATS record, and yards per game.

Patrick Mahomes is the ultimate X-factor, though Saquon Barkley isn’t far off. The freshly-minted Offensive Player of the Year rushed for 2,000 yards this season and has been unstoppable in the playoffs (477 scrimmage yards, five TDs).

If Nick Sirianni and the Eagles stick to their offensive philosophy, Barkley should touch the ball early and often. I trust him to perform and Philly’s defence to keep Mahomes in check. The three-peat isn’t happening.

Horrobin (Eagles +1): It’s easy to make an ATS case for the Chiefs if you’re going off historical narratives or gut feel. Yes, KC has won 17 consecutive one-score games, as well as nine consecutive playoff games. And yes, there’s an air of Mahomesian magic whenever No. 15 in red steps on the field.

But logic — and thus, my gut — have me leaning on the Eagles. They have the stingiest pass defence and the meanest run offence in the NFL, headlined by legitimate game-breakers on both sides of the ball (Barkley, Jalen Carter).

When KC beat Philly in the Super Bowl two years ago, the Chiefs had the NFL’s No. 1 offence by yards and points. They finished smack in the middle of the league in both categories this year.

If the Eagles jump ahead, their pound-the-rock offence can shrink the number of possessions and prevent a comeback. Both teams are experienced, rested and healthy. Philly is simply the better squad.

Toman (Eagles +1): As of Friday morning (Feb. 7), Eagles moneyline is a +104 play. I got them last week at +110 and have them to win in some SGPs as well. So, yes, I like Eagles +1 at -110 but do think you’re better off taking them on the ML or as a favourite on an alternate spread.

The Eagles are 7-1 straight up in their last eight games (playoffs included) and they’ve won all of them by six-plus points.

Philadelphia -5.5 has cashed in 12 of its last 15 games, and you can get +195 odds at that number. That’s where the value is for me. You could also take on less risk and get a plus-money payout for the Eagles to cover a field goal. Definitely something to consider.

As a two-time reigning champ that really only lost one game this season (KC sat all its starters in Week 18), the Chiefs are obviously no pushovers. But several metrics point to the Eagles having the better season, better team and the most explosive offensive player (Barkley) that either squad employs.

The square consists of 10 vertical columns and 10 horizontal rows, both numbered from zero to nine. One Super Bowl team — Chiefs or Eagles — is assigned the columns and the other gets the rows. 

Each of the 100 squares inside is then purchased individually with each square priced equally.

Members of your Super Bowl party can then buy as many squares as they’d like in each quarter. The more squares that are bought, the greater the payout probabilities for the winner.

Once every box of the pool has been sold, the numbers assigned to each row and column are selected at random.

After every quarter, the person whose square corresponds with the intersection of the second digit of each team’s score wins a prize.

For example, a 14–7 score at the end of the first quarter pays out the owner of the square at row 4, column 7.

That’s the traditional way of playing. But maybe you’re not at a Super Bowl party or you’d like to jazz it up.

Let’s use the first quarter “0-0” as an example.

• That would cover a 0-0 tie, 10-10 tie, 20-10 score, 10-0, score, etc. As long as both team’s score ends with a zero when the clock strikes zero, the bet would cash.

• At +300, “0-0” is deemed the most likely outcome. Still, that carries a 25.0% implied probability, hence the generous odds.

As more time in the game elapses, there are more opportunities for crooked numbers to get on the scoreboard.

For example, at the end of the third quarter, both “0-7 Philadelphia” and “7-0 Kansas City” hold +1,500 odds. These are some examples of scores which would cash the latter:

• Kansas City 17-20 Philadelphia
• Kansas City 27-10 Philadelphia
• Kansas City 7-30 Philadelphia

It’s an interesting exercise because you can win your wager with either team getting blown out. That said, Super Bowl squares is largely a game of chance but numbers such as 0, 3 and 7 have higher hit rates.
