NFL wild-card ATS picks: The Saturday slate
Chargers vs. Texans (Saturday, Jan. 11: 4:30 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Los Angeles -2.5
Toman says: Joe Mixon was invisible down the stretch and runs into a Chargers team (12-5 ATS, tied for No. 1 in the NFL) that was strong against the run. Houston is already down two big playmakers (receivers Tank Dell, Stefon Diggs) and limped to the finish line. C.J. Stroud had a disappointing sophomore season and is outclassed by Justin Herbert at the QB position. Even at home, I can’t trust Houston.
Pick: Chargers -2.5
Steelers vs. Ravens (Saturday, Jan. 11: 8:00 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Baltimore -9.5
Closs says: This is a hefty line but one the Ravens covered a few weeks back against the Steelers in a 34-17 win. Since Week 15, Baltimore has covered this spread in four consecutive games while scoring 30-plus points each outing. During that time, Pittsburgh went 0-4, gave up the division to the Ravens and was held to under 20 points in every game.
Pick: Ravens -9.5
NFL Sunday slate
Broncos vs. Bills (Sunday, Jan. 12: 1:00 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Buffalo -9
Closs says: This number is too high for me. Denver is legit, ranking in the top 10 in both scoring offence and defence. Since Week 8, Bo Nix has 24 TDs and seven INTs. Do I think the Broncos will win? Not necessarily, but this is too many points. They covered this spread in 16 of 17 games this season.
Pick: Broncos +9
Packers vs. Eagles (Sunday, Jan. 12: 4:30 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Philadelphia -4.5
Horrobin says: Rest, home-field advantage and head-to-head results are all on Philly’s side. The Eagles sat a bunch of key starters in Week 18, and now they’ll host a Packers squad they’ve already beaten (34-29 in Week 1). Philadelphia is 11-6 ATS this season, covering this number in six straight home games.
Pick: Eagles -4.5
Commanders vs. Buccaneers (Sunday, Jan. 12: 8:00 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Tampa Bay -3
Horrobin says: Tampa Bay won this head-to-head matchup back in September, but that’s only a slice of why I like the Bucs in the rematch. Since Week 9, Tampa Bay ranks fourth in offensive EPA per play and ninth in defensive EPA per play, according to rbsdm.com. In the same span, Washington ranks 13th and 23rd, respectively. Tampa is also 6-3 ATS since Week 9, while Washington is just 4-5.
Pick: Buccaneers -3
Monday Night Football NFL ATS pick
Vikings vs. Rams (Monday, Jan. 13: 8:00 p.m.)
NorthStar Bets line: Los Angeles +1
Toman says: One of the Vikings’ three losses was to the Rams. The other two were to Detroit, including in Week 18 for the No. 1 seed and they were walloped. I love the way L.A. enters the playoffs, going 9-3 following its Week 6 bye. And keep in mind, the Rams rested their stars last week. In four games before that, they held three straight opponents under 10 points and hung 44 on the Bills in a shootout win.
Pick: Rams +1
Regular season ATS records: Closs: 137-115-7 | Toman: 127-125-7 | Horrobin: 120-132-7
